If the terrorists hadn't targeted New York on 9/11, most of the President's supporters would have a "Jerry Ford to NY - Drop Dead" attitude about the city.

Ed: While you are at it, can you take a look at the Republican Party platform and policies and let me know if they are being modified to reflect the moderate views of all the speakers. Will the radical right wingers running the House embrace the new moderate face of the party? Are Rockefeller Republicans coming back into power, and is their dominance of the rostrum evidence of this? Or is this a bit of Madison Avenue advertising manipulation? And if so, how will it play in the Red states?

Also, ask the delegates why, if they are so opposed to gun control, they favor such tight security when they are in the City. Or doesn't the Iraqi example demonstrate that when weaponry is available to all, peace reigns?

Thanks.

Sbenois - I am flip flopping on answering your questions - the thread is not designed to convince anyone why they should or should not vote for Bush-Cheney and not vote for Kerry-Edwards. Other threads address that. This thread is about my journey to the convention of the party of my choice. A once in a lifetime journey probably. A few other Maplewood Republicans are also going, but they do not post a lot. Maybe there are Republicans going from South Orange. Maybe if the Democrat Convention had been held in NYC some local Democrat would be writing about her personal journey.

Innisowen - Thank you for your tolerance of my viewpoint

mem - all politics is local, and is best discussed over good food and a sensible dose of alcohol

Mark, Cato et al - You never know, I just might raise some of your questions

Michael Janay et al - I have 25 mores signs coming in tomorrow - some are spoken for - I cannot post online what makes them theft proof. Remind me of your address and a sign will appear on your lawn.

us2inFL - actually a poncho might make sense, since they might not allow umbrellas.

MEC - Private Line me and maybe we will meet. And thank you for visiting my thread. Being a conservative Republican gets lonely at times.

Now I have to go and study my convention schedule. It just arrived in the mail today!

Ed

Wish I could go with you to the convention. It would be like old times when we campaigned together.

Mr May

Enjoy yourself at the convention.

Say his to Mr. Hannity for me if you can.

Be careful and stick to your guns.

I admire your opinions.

Thanks.

Marilyn,

Please ask your husband why the Republicans only serve breakfast on Tuesday.

I know that they're all going to be spoon fed lots of yummy BS all week, but it can't be that filling.

Thankey

"S", I can answer that for you... it's the Pancakes!

One of the conventions best-kept secrets is the early morning pancake delivery from Les Saisons. Like the wake-up call, and the morning newspaper in front of your door, every member of the delegation receives their daily stack of hot, fluffy, buttered beauties with a side of tasty sausage.

Ed, keep up the good work, you make us proud buddy! BTW, I’ll be delivering the maple syrup to the convention center Friday night. Look for the long white stretch limo’s back by the kitchen entrance.

And you know what. The more I think of it the happier I am to know that Ed will be there. That the thousands of delegates will assemble in NYC (the whole 9/11 thing aside). It takes courage, committment and a serious belief in your party and candidate to make the journey. Too many of us find a trip to the polls a pain in the .

Ed, for whatever its worth, I salute your committment and am happy to know that, however misguided your beliefs you stand strongly behind the party and the platform.

Go, be decent, honorable, and make maplewood proud.

or else....

Duncan, we did sell those last year....honest! Remember, I'm in the repo business and we never know what we're going to be taking in from day to day.

It's like here today, and gone tomorrow.

The more things change the more they stay the same. Ed May, one of the few republicans, is articulate and polite while the democratic vultures try to lure him into their dream world where everyone and everything utterly sucks.

What a very un-vulturelike thing to say.

Looks like I am housed at the Crowne Plaza Hotel at Broadway and 49th. Is anyone familiar with the Crowne Plaza? Hope its nice. Hope that it is near to Madison Square Garden. Not even sure what corner MSG is at. My training is at the New Yorker Hotel at 34th and 8th. Something goes on at the Hotel Pennsylvania. Wonder if these places are within the "Secure Perimeter". How far from the Minskoff Theater at 200 West 45th. Wish I knew New York City like I know Jersey. Not even sure if I can take Midtown Direct to Penn Station on Saturday afternoon before convention or home to Maplewood on Friday after convention. Not sure if I should bring my laptop to access the internet from my room or if it is easy enough to check email from hotel business office or elsewhere. Not sure if I should bring a cell phone. I did get a copy of "Unfit for Command" thanks to the Gold Finch Book Store in Maplewood. Should I bring a camera? Not sure what the security measures will allow for. I know that umbrellas and hard fruit were not allowed at the Democratic convention in Boston, per my daughter Michaela who covered it for the National Journal. Not sure of the protocol when walking past 250,000 demonstrators. Don't suppose I could engage them in intelligent discussion when I walk by in my Republican costume. I wish I knew more what to expect. Maybe I'll see Sean and Rush et al. By arriving early and staying late, and staying in NYC all week, I hope to get in on all the great political stuff that I can. The odd thing is that I might not even get onto the floor of the convention. Wonder if the News-Record wants exclusive coverage from a cub reporter embedded with the NJGOP?
