Ed, The Crowne Plaza is nice. It's not near MSG but you can take the 1 or 9 train from the 50th Street station which is on the next corner. Just take that to 34th Street and you're there. The New Yorker and Hotel Pennsylvania are across the street from Penn Station. One is on 8th and the other on 7th. I'd guess that it is within the "secure perimeter"

My husband used to be the banquet cook at Crowne Plaza when it first opened (10 years ago). It is very nice. Ther's a bar/restaurant on the second floor overlooking Broadway. Doesn't The Hotel New Yorker belong to the Church of Unification (the Moonies)? |

Ed, The midtown direct is running Saturday and Sunday on normal schedule. The Convention train schedule is from 8/30 thru 9/3 and can be picked up at the ticket office in Penn Station when you arrive this weekend. From what I understand ... for security purposes, delegations will be taking buses to MSG as a group and leaving as a group. Good luck! |

Hello Maplewood. Live from the RNC it is me. NJ TRansit diverted me to Hoboken but I pathed up to the Hotel Pennsylvania in timing for vvolunteer training. the internet is a ternibnal for cash and no time to fix vtypos. There is a lot I cannot report but the vtraining was extensive and I am helping dlegates bus up from Embassasy Suites way down town. Working 6 am to 1 am monday. Mycrew is great. Tomorrow Iplay the honorary delegate and catxch up with Mary Devon who is an alternate delegate. 3 parties tomorrow nite and one is with the bUSHtWINS. sUNDAY AM I will watch the prtootesters walk past my hotel which is right across from MSG. This is thesafst place in the world with the strictest security I have even seen. Our goodie bag was kind of paltry as a volunteer but the delegate one should be better. Crexential chandge every day so I will collect a ton of them. I was interviewed before I was processed as a volunteer by the BBC. MEntioned Maplwood of course. Money running out and there is ameeting in the bar. signing off from within the soon to be secure perimeter. |

The funny thing is I didn't notice the typos when I read Ed's post at 11:30 last night -- were you drunk too Ed? |

The thing is that last night I was typing on a plastic covered keyboard without a mouse and using a lousy touch screen. Plus my minutes were ticking away. Now I am at a great NetNomads-type cyber cafe on 49th near Bway and 7th. Can proof read. Too much to report. Look for me in various papers, on radio, and on TV. Basically I was a rare BUSH-CHENEY buttoned Republican watching the protest parade between 14th Street and MSQ. Attracted much of the swarming media. Then I joined the pro-Bush rally in front of my Hotel Pennsylvania across from the Garden then walked up to NJ GOP events at Crowne Plaza. Tonite a 6PM, and 8PM, with N J GOP, and then off to the Bush Twins Party at the Roseland. (Hottest ticket in town!) Tomorrow volunteering from 6 am - 1 am. The Secret Service told me not to reveal detrails of my logistical duties. I thought the protest was very interesting. I felt perfectly safe surronded by NYPD et al. Met Curtis, and even Congressman from NY Charlie Rangel. You saw the parade on TV. Eclectic to say the least. Sad the curses and epithets they hurled at me. But no problem. Greatest City in the World, greatest country. Let Freedom Ring! I did not recognize any people from MOl, but if not, I was the one with the Republican tie! Actually had some intellient conversations with some protesters. Others were complete loonie tunes. I think any Democrat in the Parade should have been ashamed of some the communists, socialists, and anarchists who marched. Very few were Kerry-Edwards per se. Many were just spewing hatred and wierd stuff. So the protesters had their parade, and now we have our Garden Party! |

That's pretty damning, Mr. May. Are you sure they "hurled" insults and invective directly at you? I think they may have known you didn't bring this quagmire on all by yourself.

I bet Ed was the only Republican nutjob outside in 90 degree heat wearing a tie! Even Bush & Cheney had no ties on today! Ed... You're not going to win the MensWear award of the year! Relax and remove your tie! |
