As reported in the Wall Street Journal and BBC Online:

quote:

The US army plans to end a contract given to Halliburton to provide its troops in Iraq with logistical support, the Wall Street Journal reports. The army will put the work out to contract, the newspaper says, quoting an army memorandum which estimates the contract to be worth $13bn (£7.3bn). Halliburton has been accused of overcharging since it was handed the no-bid contract last year.

US Vice-President Dick Cheney headed the firm until he took office in 2001.

My favorite Cheney quote re Halliburton uttered in 2000 when he said his policy as CEO of Halliburton was "we wouldn't do anything in Iraq"

Apparently all that went out the window when he became VP

More election-year BS. They're trying to let the air out of that balloon before the debates. If Bush gets re-elected, I've got $10 that says Halliburton gets a new contract.

Takes me back to that old phrase which has reappeared in all its zestfulness - "the military industrial complex" which has benefited immensely with the war against Iraq. It has helped the bankers, the oil industry and the Pentagon.

Result: 15000 Iraqis and 1000 Americans dead.
Way to go ,Mr. President!
