I heard that the budget was voted down and that there were lots of fireworks. Some talk of our tax relief from the State being jeopardized because we haven't passed the budget. I didn't see it so this is second hand. Anyone watch?

Instead of Trading Spouses? Are you nuts Jeff?

In fact, I started too -- seemed pretty boring to me, but this was early on.

Evidently, it wasn't boring for long. In fact, it sounds like it was pretty raucous.

Trading Spouses? Well, given your situation Algebra, I think I get it.

Just kidding! Just kidding!

I watched the early portion, prior to the budget talks. The discussion on the new location for the PD went very well, no real opposition.
The owners of the two buildings (other than Bette White) expressed hope that a decision would be made promptly as they are anxious to relocate, etc. One said he had buyers interested in his property, so he wanted quick action.
That being said, later the town's attorney stated these properties would be acquired via condemnation process. No real estate killings to be made? Is this the same as the eminent domain process?
The main question being discussed pro and con was does a PD really bring in the kind of other businesses and traffic into a neighborhood. I think it was Huemer who said he thought mixed use, residential and commercial at this location would result in more people being drawn to SA.
DeLuca thought otherwise, one comment of his being that pizza parlors would benefit from cops, lawyers and such.
It seems like a done deal to me. Apparently the Dunnell site's flooding issues will not prevent developers from competing to take it over.
The mayor blew off comments that Maplewood's municipal town center complex was something to preserve.

The building of a new PD should not be decided by the old 3-2 punch. It has to be a unanimous decision.

I think I'll open a Hot-Dog stand across the street at the old Shell station. Between the construction workers of the church and the PD station I should make a killing for months!

Algebra-
Did you happen to also watch the show where they make over a family's house? I would watch the council meetings, but we have a dish, not comcast. I also have to agree about Trading Spouse!

I was at the meeting Jeff. The Mayor was in control as usual. It looks like we'll probably have the location for the new police station on the table at the next TC meeting.

You can read all about it in todays Star Ledger or tomorrows News Record...

Boy Art, I heard two other reports that said the meeting was completely out of control. Do they replay these things?

Yes they do, next Tuesday I believe... Actually, I came late, stayed about an hour or so and left early, although we did watch more at H2TA later.

Nothing was out of control while I was there, as a matter of fact, the Mayor was in total control of things...
