Good for him. I hope he continues to make progress. I would prefer he made progress on things other than simple polls. But that might be asking too much. |

Well, the theme of the Republican convention was "Anybody But Kerry". Whether their "ABK" strategy will continue to succeed, once the public pays attention to who the Republican candidate is, only time will tell. |

Gee, the week after the incumbent president's party has their convention (right over the border from here, I might add), and he now has the support of a whopping 39% of New Jerseyans. Sounds like a reason for him to celebrate. |

I was referring to the Eagleton Poll, which has Kerry up 43%-39%. |

I am travelling this week and haven't seen the SL article. If Bush and Kerry are that far below the 50% marker in NJ, what is the % of undecided voters and those voting for others? |

Its apathy. Most likely. Haven't seen anything to account for the missing #'s but the tone of the election is turning alot of people off. When Sbenois says he might not vote?? But seriously IRL many people I have spoken with are tired of the mean. Its all mean. And its all the fault of a sensationalistic press. What someone plans to do is not anywhere near as entertaining as what someone didn't do 30 years ago. And that is a sad commentary on the state of the Media. When the best info on the election comes from The Daily Show you gotta wonder. |

they didn't specifically report % "undecided" in the article. Nader gets 5% and the remainder is other responses. So you'd have to figure about 12% is undecided. Not surprising since the RNC strategy was not to promote Bush but to trash Kerry and get his supporters to think twice. Between this poll and the last, Kerry lost more support than Bush gained, so apparently some people are now "undecided." Actually, any poll that forces undecideds to tell which way they're "leaning" is less valid than one which doesn't push undecideds to make a choice. If you have any experience with polling, you know that if you force people to give an answer, they will, even if it doesn't really have any value. So the Eagleton poll is probably the best snapshot we've got for NJ (and its M of E is less than 4%). Although any poll taken over a holiday weekend is likely to be flukey (not to mention a poll taken in the immediate wake of the RNC). Bottom line, anyone undecided at this late date is very likely to go for the challenger. This would be especially likely in NJ. That's why the article in the S-L says that even the GOP is not interpreting this poll to say that they should spend any effort campaigning here. |

Duncan, As I'm sure you know, I have a great interest in voting and the political process but this time around there's just no meat to either campaign. Kerry needs to stop talking about Vietnam and start talking about real things that matter to real people. Until he does that, there is going to be apathy. |

The *&%#** press needs to start talking about something other than Vietnam. If you visit www.johnkerry.com you can read about the topics he's discussing at his campaign stops. Surprise - he's NOT talking about Vietnam on the campaign trail. Of course you wouldn't know that from reading MOL, where it's all 1972 all the time. |
