He's done it before. He'll do it again. George W. Bush is going to tell a couple of whoppers at Thursday night's debate and we can't let him get away with it! When he and John Kerry take the stage for the first presidential debate, Americans everywhere will be watching. Millions of voters will decide who to support on Thursday night.Although John Kerry will be standing across the stage, George Bush will really be debating the truth at Thursday night's debate on foreign policy. When it comes to Iraq, Bush has misled us time and time again. He led us into Iraq under the guise of fighting terror, though the war in Iraq has made us less safe and has taken resources away from pursuing Osama bin Laden. He has told us that the situation in Iraq is getting better, while the US casualty rate has doubled and the CIA's own forecast is for things to get worse. And we'd all like to know what happened to the weapons of mass destruction that Bush said were the primary reason for going to war. Even Republicans and members his own administration disagree with the President's assessment of the war and reconstruction in Iraq. There's an easy thing you can do right now to help the truth win round one of the presidential debates: KERRY supporters, please print out this flyer and post everywhere anyone can read it tonight and tomorrow, your offices, message boards, bulletin boards, etc.. http://static.act04.org/act/flyers/debateEastern.pdf

The more angry the Democrats get the better it looks for GWB. While I'd love to see Rudy in 08, how much fun would it be to see Jeb take the rains? 16 total years of the Bush brothers. Sleep on that you Bush haters. While Democrats vent with anger, we keep on smiling and talking about the issues. Thank you for another great post Mwudy. Keep them coming - I love 'em!

do us all a favor, maplewoodian, and get the enlargement surgery. im sure you can find another on this board and work out a 2 for 1 special. think of the time you will save by not having to compensate for your stubbiness with all your dung-infested rants on this board. you will no longer have to stop for gas every 49 miles and your wife might let you jump her more often. do it for the environment...do it for your wife..and most importantly, do it for all of us who visit this board.... |

I just turned mine up and I heard an announcement on the low frequency channels: George W. Bush is going to win in a landslide because Kerry is a weak candidate who is running one of the worst campaigns in the last 50 years. |

Maplewoody - you need to start dealing with how you will handle another 4 years of President Bush. It looks more and more probable. There was a doctor who offered to help Tulip at one point. If he is still reading these threads, hopefully the same extension of support would be coming your way. I intentionally did not present you with the Poopyhead award as suggested by Sbenois since I feel you are on the edge. Please take care of yourself - I mean this sincerely and I am very concerned. Please get help. |

Agreed. I've resigned myself to the fact that Bush is probably going to win. I also agree with Sbenois. Kerry has put on the worst campaign in years. But I'll also add that Bush and his supporters have put on the most outrageous campaign I can remember, from twisting words and reversing their intent, to outright lying. It has gone beyond the standard stuff to some really outrageous things. But Americans love a good bloodbath, and care more about who's got more swagger than who has a better grip on the issues (and reality). As I've said in another thread, I'm not in favor of either candidate. I'm voting for a change. To quote Jim Gearhardt, GRIP. Get Rid of Incumbment Polititians. |

Before jumping down my throat Duncan, why not take a look at the crap "Maplewoody" puts into every post? Everything from calling Bush a cokehead and a monkey to him standing side by side with Osama and Sadam. He can dish it so I am sure he can take it.

Well, he was a cokehead, his family is very close with the bin Ladens, and while he didn't stand with Saddam, his SecDef not only stood with him, but shook his hand. But while he does look a bit simian, calling him a monkey might have been over the line. [edited] Singlemalt, everything you've said MW said has been an attack on GWB. You attacked MW personally. Or do you not see the difference? |

Sbenois, I'm honestly curious. What do you perceive from the Kerry campaign as being equally outrageous? Incompentent? Absolutely. But I'm seriously curious what was outrageous. |

Please reread this from your post "But I'll also add that Bush and his supporters have put on the most outrageous campaign I can remember" Kerry's supporters have more than compensated for the ills of the Bush campaign. |

Forgetting the "ads" on the sister site to moveon.org, which ads do you mean? Again, I'm not saying they didn't exist. I just haven't seen or heard about much from the left as extreme as some of the ads from the right. The ads attributed to moveon.org were never broadcast anywhere, nor were they (as far as I know) put anywhere outside that site. The exceptions that I know of to that are where they were redistributed by conservative sites as evidence of the extremes of the left, or by liberal sites to gloat. |

Washington Post Tuesday, September 28, 2004 Couldn't Have Said It Any Better Himself By Dana Milbank It's a political whodunit: Since Ayad Allawi delivered his address to a joint meeting of Congress on Thursday, foreign policy devotees have been searching for the ghostwriter of the speech, which sounded curiously familiar to American ears. The White House denies that anybody in the administration did it. Several of the usual suspects outside the administration, including former White House officials Karen Hughes, Dan Senor and David Frum, have also denied culpability. But those searching for a ghostwriter of the Allawi speech may be overthinking things. Maybe the prime minister simply went to the White House Web site and combed through some of President Bush's speeches. Consider the similarities: "The world is better off without Saddam Hussein." -- Allawi "The world is better off without Saddam Hussein in power." -- Bush "There are terrorists . . . who seek to make our country the main battleground against freedom, democracy and civilization." -- Allawi "The killers know that Iraq is the central front in the war on terror." -- Bush "It's a tough struggle with setbacks, but we are succeeding." -- Allawi "It's tough at times . . . but there is steady progress." -- Bush "I have seen some of the images that are being shown here on television. They are disturbing." -- Allawi "The American people have seen horrible scenes on our TV screens." -- Bush Iraq is "emerging finally from dark ages of violence." -- Allawi "Iraq will never return to the dark ages of tyranny." -- Bush "Your decision to go to war in Iraq was not an easy one, but it was the right one." -- Allawi "We made a tough decision when it came to Iraq. . . . And we made the right decision when it came to Iraq." -- Bush Iraqi forces "are striking their enemies wherever they hide." -- Allawi "We're fighting these enemies wherever they hide." -- Bush "I have come here to . . . promise you that your sacrifices are not in vain." -- Allawi "We will complete the mission so that their child or their husband or wife has not died in vain." -- Bush "I have many friends who were murdered, tortured or raped by the regime of Saddam Hussein. . . . We estimate at least 300,000 in mass graves." -- Allawi "Because we acted, torture rooms are closed, rape rooms no longer exist, mass graves are no longer a possibility in Iraq." -- Bush "Creating a democratic, prosperous and stable nation . . . which lives in peace with itself and its neighbors is our highest priority." -- Allawi "A stable, democratic and prosperous Iraq will no longer be a breeding ground for terror, tyranny and aggression." -- Bush "There are fanatics who seek to impose a perverted vision of Islam." - - Allawi "The terrorists practice a fringe form of Islamic extremism . . . that perverts the peaceful teachings of Islam." -- Bush "These killers may be just a tiny fraction of our 27 million population." - - Allawi "There's only a few relative to the 25 million who are trying to stop the march of freedom." -- Bush "These murderers have no political program or cause other than push our country back into tyranny. Their agenda is no different than terrorist forces that have struck all over the world, including in your own country on September 11th." -- Allawi "The terrorist who takes hostages or plants a roadside bomb near Baghdad is serving the same ideology of murder that kills innocent people on trains in Madrid . . . and in the merciless horror inflicted upon thousands of innocent men and women and children on September the 11th, 2001." -- Bush "Schools and hospitals are being rebuilt, the clinics are open and reopened. There are now over 6 million children at school, many of them attending one of the 2,500 schools that have been renovated since liberation. Last week we completed a national polio vaccination campaign, reaching over 90 percent of all Iraqi children." -- Allawi "Our coalition has rehabilitated nearly 2,500 schools, and over 1,200 more should be completed by the end of the year. All of Iraq's hospitals and most medical clinics are open and are serving the people. Since the liberation, the vast majority of Iraqi children under 5 years old have been vaccinated for polio." -- Bush "Do not let them convince others that the values of freedom, of tolerance and democracy are for you and the West but not for us." -- Allawi "There's a lot of people in the world who don't believe that people whose skin color may not be the same as ours can be free and self- govern. I reject that." -- Bush "Thank you, America." -- Allawi "You need to thank the American people, that's who you need to thank." -- Bush |

I'm not surprised. Allawi is America's "puppet". I hate to say this, but as long as Allawi is in charge (for the moment), peace in Iraq is soooo far fetched. The people of Iraq (particularly the Sunni's & Shites) see the US government (the enemy) running the show behind Allawi. I doubt if HE can EVER gain any control of his own country. Just look at all the mounting insurgents who have invaded Iraq. The kidnappings (seems there are various groups besides the Tawhid terror group), suicide/car bombings & killings are just insurmountable. That country is going on a course to civil war.

The problem is that Allawi is viewed by many in Iraq as an American puppet as well. I don't have a problem with him being closely alligned to the US. However, if he is going to have credibility in Iraq he can't go on spouting Karl's daily talking points. My initial thought about the war was that we would install a figurehead government supported by elements of the Iraqi army who had seen the writing on the wall and get out of there as quickly as possible. Alas, I was wrong, although a similar strategy seems to be taking hold now.
