So around lunchtime today I'm upstairs in my house and hear a loud "bang," followed by the sound of stuff dragging along the road.

I go down to investigate and see that someone drove up over the curb catecorner from my house and hit the pedestrian signal. They knocked the entire thing off the base, knocked the 'walk-don't walk' piece across the street onto a traffic island, and dragged the pole itself about 100 feet down the street.

After calling the police, I went outside to pick up the larger pieces that were in the way of traffic. One of them was the vehicle's front license plate holder, complete with plate.

Nothing like leaving your calling card when you're making a trail of destruction.

I can just imagine the driver's excuse when they get nailed. "Really, I thought it was just a wild animal I hit!!"

Lunchtime? Seems like the driver had a 3-martini lunch!
