I believe I clicked on some advertising web site from hell, "Movie Land.com" What ever you do, DON'T Click on it!!!! The bastards keep harassing me every ten minutes or so and tie up my computer demanding payment until I click get back to me later. I've tried everything I can but they keep freezing my screen with some stupid messgage. Has anyone else run into this problem? I'm sending them a letter and want to sue them for harassment. This is the most annoying thing I've ever run into on my computer... Does anyone have any suggestions????

You've got a bad case of spyware. Try getting these (free) products, installing them, and running them. Should help. AdAware: http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?p art=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5 Spybot Search & Destroy: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html Microsoft (I assume you're running Windows or you wouldn't be having this problem) Malicious Software Removal Tool: from Windows Update. Have you installed the latest security patches while you're at it? USE ALL THREE, don't rely on just one. Stop using Internet Explorer. Get Firefox. And even with Firefox, never ever ever click anywhere on a popup window. PL me if you need any help. Be wary of other products you hear about from anonymous sources that claim to remove spyware, some of them are spyware themselves. |

Unfortunately, you may not be able to clear the problem with these 'automatic' programs. They're great, especially Spybot, but some things need a little manual intervention. If those cleaners don't do the job, you'll need to grab a copy of "Hijack This", run the scan and post the results. Its a bit tedious, especially for the really persistent trojans, but it DOES work. Good luck! |

Not sure if this is what tom is talking about, but Microsoft has a free (to windows users) antispyware program in beta that consumer reports rated very highly. |

All that stuff is great, it really is... but if it doesn't work, there is STILL a reasonably straightforward method to clean the system. Sadly things like this are usually solved with an iterative process... but if you're patient you can be 'walked through' the solution over the phone (or MOL). |

The spyware monkeys are like spammers in they're always trying to get ahead of the race. You need multiple layers of protection, and they have to be kept up to date, and...and...and... Geez I like my Mac more every day. (Case, is the straightforward way to wipe the hard drive and reinstall everything?) |

I had a similar problem after my daughter used my computer to go onto MySpace for a few minutes. Nothing worked until my husband discovered that the computer had a utility that would reset the entire system to the previous day. (Of course, if you've been writing the Great American Novel in the interim, this might not be the ideal solution.) |

I don't think that feature wipes out programs or files you have created. It has more to do with resetting the registry, doesn't it? |

I don't have a lot of confidence in the MS spyware solution. I ran it and it came up clean. Then I ran Spybot and it came up with 153 problems. |

I've used AdAware and Spybot, but found it best to just go ahead and shell out for an anti-spyware program. The best I've found is Spyware Doctor. Check out reviews at Download.com: http://www.download.com/Spyware-Doctor/3000-8022_4-10293212.html and http://www.download.com/Spyware-Doctor/3640-8022_4-10377263.html?pn=2&sb=2&v=0 |

Arturo, Go into your task manager (CNTL+ALT+DEL, then click on the processes tab) and see if you see this process running: MPP2PL.EXE It's the spyware program that Movieland deposits on your computer. If so, we'll talk you through it babe |
