I have been having a lot of trouble with my skin since my son was born two years ago. I finally went to Alan Lifton (found recommendation on MOL for him) and he was great! So was his Assistant Jessica! (Can't remember last name.) The soaps and medicines they perscribed made a difference within 24 hours! I was amazed and so thrilled. Still am! Great office, great bed side manner, so friendly, so professional, and made me feel so comfortable. Dr. Lifton was very sympathetic to my desperation and assured me that he would make my face normal again! Phew! I should have gone to him a year ago!!!! |

Dr. Liftin is the best! besides all of the wonderful (and true) qualities Chicken legs listed - he's one of the few dermatologists that doesn't try to sell you a bunch of high-priced goop with his name on it. The soap and products he recommended really worked, and so quickly! My rosacea cleared up in days, and the brown spots from the sun and pregnancy were noticibly better in a few weeks. |

I concur with all of you. I use his sunscreen, but he didn't try to sell me on his other skin-care products (even though I'm sure I would have been easily sucked into buying anything...). He and Jennifer both have a great demeaner and I have never had a long wait in the waiting room. They're both very thorough as well. |

Dr. Liftin is a pathologist too, besides helping skin look quite loverly, he's super conservative about odd moles and serious stuff. |

Alas, he is not participating in my HMO. Had skin cancer some years back and could really use a dermatapathologist. Oh well. |

Chicken Legs -- I have asked for a Heath/Medical forum several times, but it doesn't look like it is in the future plans... It would be an ideal place for doctor recs.

Ummm... I always thought that the Soapbox is the place where people get on their soapbox and spout off their (more controversial) opinions. And while I could see you making the argument that your glowing review of a doctor is your opinion, it just doesn't seem worth climbing on a soapbox to crow about. But it's not like there is a penalty for doing so. I just thought it was odd. I mean, really should I care about a dermatologist? |

Ms. Alleygater, if that is your real name, maybe your rant on Bush should have been on the "all politics" soapbox message board, if you want to get all technical. |

How is his practice regarding appointment scheduling and handling? I'm fairly happy with the care I receive from my dermatologist, but I hate dealing with appointment scheduling. Unless it is a serious emergency, I usually have to wait 2-3 months for an appointment and there are no evenings or weekends and not much after school for my children. A cancellation by their office and need to reschedule does not constitute an emergency on their part, so when the doctor was sick and our appointments were cancelled, we had to wait two months for a reschedule for my daughter who had to work around school schedules. I haven't had too much trouble with long waits in the waiting room recently, but that is another feature I would want to avoid if selecting a new doctor. Dr. Liftin sounds great from the posts above, but I would appreciate any feedback on his practice in these respects, also. |

I called to ask for an appointment as a new patient, and I was able to get in there a week later. After my fist appointment, they set up a follow up for two weeks after that. There weren't any delays or scheduling difficulties for me, but maybe someone above who has been going to Lifton for a while could answer your question more fully. |

Dr. Liftin treats my daughter - it's easy to get an appt and it's been our experience to get seen exactly (or within a few minutes) of our appt. |

As a teacher I need appts after 4 pm. I've had no trouble getting appointments at 4:30 or even 5 pm (not sure if he has these hours every day, but some days he has later hours.) |

Well at least it was soapboxy. Just because there is a subcategory specifically for politics doesn't mean that political conversation can't reside inside the larger uber-category. I also didn't originally mean for my thread to get into any specific political topic other than "I'm totally sick of Bush, and I blame my neighbor for the pox he inflicted upon me". I meant it to be a light AND SILLY topic. I also generally avoid the politics section of MOL because it can get REALLY F-ing CATTY in there. I have noticed that even though the Republicans are TOTALLY OUTNUMBERED in NJ, Maplewood and MOL they unfortunately are some of the most vocal, nastiest and mean-spirited posters. Have you met Straw yet? So alot of people avoid entering that section including myself USUALLY. Admittedly I do walk on the wild side sometimes and enter a fracas or two but only very rarely. So did I choose the wrong place to post, I would argue No. |

Alleygator, "And this is posted to Soapbox why...?" "And while I could see you making the argument that your glowing review of a doctor is your opinion, it just doesn't seem worth climbing on a soapbox to crow about. But it's not like there is a penalty for doing so. I just thought it was odd. I mean, really should I care about a dermatologist?" You may need to reconsider your explanation of why things get "REALLY F-ing CATTY." I mean, this is your input when someone is sharing positive feedback about a MOL doctor recommendation? Nice. |

Jersey Boy, you think I'm being "REALLY F-ing CATTY"? You should start spending some time in the Politics section of the site. There is a reason why MANY people refuse to go there. They have been there and they have been burned by doing so. In comparison to them I thought I was being very sweet, polite and kind. |

What I actually think is that your input style may bring out some catty responses. This thread drift that you brought on, for example: signing on to a thread to declare it unimportant to you...
