In case anyone was interested, we now have a closer Lowes than Woodbridge or Jersey City. The Union Lowes has opened on Morris Avenue and 22. Woohoo!!!!! No more Slow Depot. |

Went last weekend and needed 1 thing (door knobs; not the whole unit, just door knob replacements). Beautiful store, friendly staff, but they didn't have the door knobs! Ended up having to go to Home Depot who had a selection of what I needed. Oh, how I want to like Lowes. |

I just bought a $390 refrigerator there this afternoon. They will deliver it before noon tommorrow and take away the old one - for FREE! (OK it's a rebate but same differance) I was very pleased with the store. The salespeople couldn't be nicer...very, very polite. (Reality - I am a forty-something mom and I loved having all the salesmen fuss over me!) |

They are on Morris Ave. Take Springfield over Route 78 - Make a left onto Morris. Continue through "downtown" Union. (a guess a couple miles) Keep going until you go under the highway (22 and parkway I think) Lowes is on the left (along with other stores, including an Abblebees). BUT no left turn -- so take the jughandle into the shopping center. Walk in the store and go AHH -- leave Home Depot behind! Pete |

I think that's a very long way of going. I took Vauxhall Road over 78, continued down past the Spanish restaurant, Fedex, and made a right onto I believe Caldwell, then a left onto Morris. This cuts out at least two miles off going all the way down Springfield. |

The fastest way is 78 to GSP south (now free) and get off at Morris Ave. |

A family member recently discovered this place and I have to tell you...food is great diner food (not taking away from any Maplewood or SO establishments...just mentioning that their p'cakes are delish! |

Depending on where you live I'd actually suggest taking Boyden to Stuyvesant to Morris (just remember to do that jog on Grandview because you can't make a left on to Morris from Stuyvesant) I live up by Maplecrest so it's a pretty straight shot

Nope, the best way is to take Vauxhall Road to the very end, then turn right onto Salem, one short block, then right onto Morris Avenue, then (about 1/4 mile) right into the Lowe's Parking lot. This is the fastest and safest way to go. No highways to cross. But going home, make a right onto Morris, follow it to Burnett, then a left onto Vauxhall, etc. I was there tonight. |

Just proves there is more than one way to skin a cat or get to a shopping center. When Lowe's was Bradleys we used Elaine's route. It may be slightly longer, but easier to remember. |

Arnomation, is the zig before Grandview onto Vauxhall (at the Stop and Shop?) and, if so, is there a light at the bottom of Grandview to help you make the left onto Morris Ave? I usually go the way Elaine described except I don't go as far as Salem but cut across one of the roads before that. However, it's twisty-turny and totally loopy! If there's an easy way onto Morris way before all that I'd love to try it. |

NO! There is no light there and I drove myself crazy trying to cross Morris Ave. right there on Tuesday... Navigation systems are good but they need to know how hard it is to make a left turn across 4 lanes of traffic. (I ended up going up Morris the wrong way and turning around in someone's driveway!) |

I took the Vauxhall route but I think I improved on it just a bit. When I went over 22 I made the first right onto Erhardt Street, drive to end (200 feet or so), make left onto Sayre Road South, drive to end, make right onto Morris, Lowes is 500 feet down on the right. |

I just take Boyden, turn right onto Stuyvessant, go down to Morris and turn left, drive down to the jughandle and go into the parking lot. If you are on Springfield ave. before Boyden, you can turn onto Stanley, go to the end and turn right onto Stuyvessant, and proceed as above. Supereasy.... |

Monster, Are you really turning left onto Morris when proceeding south on Stuyvesant? Isn't that a prohibited left turn? You are correct about the jughandle, however. It's immediately across from Lowe's entrance, and the traffic light doesn't take too long to change. I don't see the benefit of taking Vauxall farther east and looping back.

Well I think that's what I've done in the past, I haven't gone that way in awhile, if you can't turn left onto Morris,(and I guess I'm lucky I didn't get a ticket) you should be able to go around the block easy enough, I did come back that way the other day though, and it was very quick. |

I have only made the right because my dentist is over there. It sounds like there isn't from a previous post. I'll have to check it out one of these days. Jersey roads are so insane |

My two cents - Vaux Hall to Earhardt (I think that's how it is spelled and this is probably the street C Bataille mentions), left on Earhardt and follow it as it curves around to the right and then intersects with Morris Avenue. Right on Morris Avenue and it will be just up ahead on your right. I'd stay off 78, 22 and the GSP personally, tolls or no tolls. |

I realise this is "Soapbox" but arguing about driving directions? From the above, there does not seem to be a single best way to go for everyone. Just use whichever set of directions works best for you, depending on where you are starting from. |

I don't think anyone's arguing here. I think we're all trying to help each other save their valuable time by reducing the time necessary to get to Lowes, making up for the lost time spent at Home Cheapo. |

Keep an eye on the link below if you plan on making a big purchase at Lowes. They very often have 10% or 20% off coupons that you can print out and use http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?t=99309&page=40 |

Those coupons are useless. Once someone's used them, they're no longer good. Sorry Sbenois. It was a nice gesture though. And no one's arguing! Its just all the excitement built up after years of abuse from Home Cheapo. |

I guess the marketing plan here is to get people to print and speed to the store in hopes no one else used them yet. I'd like to see what kind of data they collect on it. |

If you need a Lowe's 10% off, go to USPS.COM and fill out a change of address form online, and you can get one to print right there. But it can only be used once, too. |

I *love* Lowes. Well laid-out, knowledgeable staff, and very easy in-and-out. (Oh, and it's just 3 miles down Palmetto Park Rd., turn left on to Rte 441, and Lowe's is on the right hand side. 5 minutes door-to-door |

4.25 miles and 9 minutes 45.338 seconds (my stop watch is digital) using Elaine's route. This includes getting stuck at a stop light, a long one, at Salem and Morris where there is no right turn on red. BTW this was in my Jag XKE. This was my first time at Lowes with time to look around. Other trips had been to get something specific. My first reaction was that they should be paying a royalty to Home Depot since the layout, departments, etc. are identical. Overall, I think HD has better "name brands". HD emphasises GE in their appliance department, Lowes Frigidare. HD lawn mowers are Toros, Lowes Troy Built, etc. The help speaks to you, but sometimes they can be a little strange. I was, for no particular reason, looking at refrigerators. A sales clerk went into a spiel about why a $1500 model was better than a $2500 dollar one next to it because it had two compressors. Stupidity or honesty? I don't know. The dimensional lumber was the same brand as carried at Home Depot. HD definetly has a better selection of power tools. The check out clerks are supposed to stand Walmart style in the aisle in front of their registers when not serving customers. They tended to bunch up and talk with each other. Doesn't bother me, but I am sure it will bother some. The store is almost brand new so it was cleaner than any HD I have ever been to. However, some shelves were already empty. They also had some aisles blocked off with nobody working to restock the shelves. Overall, a nice place, certainly nicer than the HD on SA. However, long term I wonder if it will be any better than a good HD such as the one on Route 22. |

Our 8 year old Frigidare washing machine died last Saturday. We went to the new Lowes, bought a Whirpool Duet washer(front loader with a HUGE drum), got 10% off and 12 months no interest. We also bought a new Vacuum sweeper. Looks like they'll have a huge nursery/garden center. Yippeee! No, they didn't leave it in the street when they delivered it. They had 3 guys take it down to our basement, hook it up, and remove the dead one! |

just an appliance comment (sorry Bob K -- but I really disagree with your summary above) -- while HD has only the average stuff in terms of appliances (unless you consider LG higher end) -- at Lowes you can get (in addition to GE/GE Profile) Whirlpool, Maytag, Jennair, Kitchenaid, Fisher & Paykel, etc. Not only more brands than HD but a far wider range of options. /p

Maybe, but the Frigidaire stuff is their main value line. Personally If I was buying top of the line, I wouldn't buy at any home center. |

Bob K--Excellent insight, as always. You do not miss much. From what I recall, Lowes was started by a bunch of former HD execs who thought that HD was too male-oriented and into heavy duty gear. The idea was that Lowes would be more attractive to women, who are the primary purchasers of many home-related products. So, Lowes is a lot like HD but with an emphasis on display, cleanliness, decorating, customer service, and appliances (including delivery), with less emphasis on tools and basic hardware. Not saying they pull it off, but the differences you noticed speak to this. |

I had gone to the Lowes in Old Bridge and loved it for it's cleanliness, selection, and caring staff and looked forward to the new Lowe'e opening. Unfortunately it was a great dissappointment. I needed a simple Dimmer switch for light fixture (one that goes on the cord not on the wall) and they didn't have it. We arranged to have someone measure our kitchen to give estimate on flooring and they were supposed to call within 2 days to set up appointment...we are still waiting for the call. As for the sales help forgettaboutit...they were as helpful as a chimpanzee. As you can see I'm not lovin Lowes |

I'm sure the demand put on this group is huge since they just started and many people now loathing the Home Cheapo. I can't say I've been disappointed with the store. I've found both times I've been so far the staff has been very attentive, even almost asking me too many times if I needed help. Give the well oiled machine a chance to break in. Some things will fall through the cracks, however in the end we've already benefitted by having Lowes open a store in Union. |
