Just curious: If you found out a convicted sex offender was living next door, how would you change your behavior? |

Rottweiller moves in right off the top. My hours (work and social) are pretty nocturnal so I'd have to think about that, too. |

Depends on the crime - "sex with a minor" can mean a pedophile with a child or a 19-year-old having consentual sex with a 17-year-old. I think I'd try to find out some details of the crime before I called "Rottweillers 'R' Us". If I were living next door to a pedophile - honestly? I'd move. Of course, if I knew I was living next door to a pedophile I'd have to disclose it to the buyers, which would winnow down the pool of buyers - it would be very unfortunate. I couldn't in good conscience sell to a family with children - we'd be in a bad spot. I'd still move though. |

I think I would probably freak out if I found out a sex offender lived next door. I don't know if I would move, though. I personally think it's great that we have access to this information on line. |

I'm not convinced of that. "This is the only thing my signature says." |

Don't most parents today behave as if everyone is a sexual offender? When I was a kid my parents let me walk with one friend to first grade! The school was some eight blocks away. I would never leave my son unattended out in the world that long. We all behave as if the Black-Van-with-the-Guy-in-a-Clown-Suit could pull up at any minute. We can't trust priests, and male doctors have to have a female in the room for exams of female patients lest something untoward occurs. The convicted sexual predator at least gives the fear a specific address to avoid. But, what about the house next to that, or the not-yet-caught sexual predator? Then can we relax? I'm not comfortable with it, but I wasn't comfortable before. |

These registries have scored a lot of points for politicians, and filled a lot of hours of programming for local TV stations. I'm not convinced, however, they've actually made kids any safer.
