I can't decide if its worth shovelling or not. Doesn't the wind just tend to smooth out the shoveling?

I plan on waiting until the afternoon.... unless I get a different opinion here.

Oh - yeah, snowplows are out in force.

I heard them all night long on Oakview. There was something in the road (tree limb perhaps?) out in front of our house that made a big bang and woke me up every time they came by and ran into it.

I think Oakview gets plowed early and often because it is a main route to the train station.

Slight different opinion, here. I just did our front porch/stoop, walk and half the sidewalk. It's pretty fluffy stuff, and it wasn't taxing. So, if you're of a mind to do half now, and some later, may not be the worst idea. My biggest challenge is the base of the driveway due to snowplow action.

You should start shovelling now. Once the snow stops and the water in the snow starts to sink down, it will double in weight and the effort will really cause you stress.

Innisowen, that is REALLY interesting. I got bored waiting for some stain and polyurethane to dry (welcome to my world) and did some shoveling. You're right, it was pretty light and a fairly easy shovel.

Incidentally, if any of you are scoffing at the old-man "bent handle" shovel... knock it off and go buy one. Hell, go buy two - these things are incredible.

My spouse is outside going at the driveway with the snowblower now, as are many of the neighbors ... seems to be the thing to do! Younger daughter is shoveling the front steps/walk (where the snowblower doesn't go), to earn money. (She is saving up for an iPod.)

I'm waiting for a miracle, sun & high temp
okay, really I'm just being lazy, and my wife hasn't gone out to shovel yet, but when she does I'll be right here waiting with the hot chocolate.

I already shoveled once at 6 this morning...I think I will wait for the 2nd round...do you think the snow will ever stop?

Thank god for hot soup and warm cider on days like these...

My hope is that its over at 4PM; I may just shovel at that time, spread salt and hope for the best.

As the Mayor of Denver once said in the 1950's, when asked why he would not allocate more money for snowplows: God put it there, God can take it away.

Of course, Denver is a desert plateau with warm sunny days....but it is supposed to get to 47 degrees on Wednesday and maybe even 50 on Thursday. Whacky winter!

Or a snowplow, as the case may be.

I think I'm getting ready to do another good shoveling, followed by salt... and then we'll see what happens.

PS - its 2:45 and things seem to be slowing down, but it might just be a lull.

so putting down salt now will keep ice from forming? Was debating when to do the salt...

Monster - you and mr. doula should hang out - he knows if he waits long enough I'll likely get frustrated & do it myself...today teenagers came along at just the right time... (my the way, my kids love the blue guy as well)

Still no plows on our street since very early this a.m.--which works out really nicely since it's getting colder and everything is freezing!

If we DO have school tomorrow we'll be hoofing it on the treacherous ice, but I just found out the preschool (I'm the parent helper tomorrow) wants me to stand out there and valet kids in so parents don't have to park...

Much as I was looking forward to helping out for their Valentine's celebration, I am kind of hoping for a delayed opening!
