My husband left the shovel by the front door while he came in to get warm. A man came up the front walk and took the shovel! Luckily we were looking out the window. When my husband confronted him he said that he was shoveling our walk for $70! Fortunately he returned the shovel with some prodding. Beware Midland Ave area!

Slap the shovel thief "upside the head" with the shovel.

Case, we don't need "overkill" when a nice shovel slap will do the trick.

Judi W, ours got stolen, too, at the last snow. Right up next to the front door! And it was a brand new one with the ergonomic handle. We live on Warren, so must be our neck of the woods...

As we keep on saying to god the father, "lead us not into temptation."

Where I grew up, you can still leave your doors unlocked and your tools in your field while you're taking a break, and no one touches them.

We live in a suburb of NYC. I wouldn't leave a tool out in my front yard any more than I would leave my wallet on my front steps.

Maplewood. Did I relate to the wrong Midland? I just know there's a Midland [street/ avenue/ road] near me....thought that was what she was referring to.

There is a Midland Ave. in SO.

Maplewood has Midland Blvd.

Just one more example of the duplicate or near duplicate streetnames in our communities. (two Laurel Aves in Maplewood, Rynda Roads in both SO and M, Franklin Ave, Franklin Terrace, Franklin Place, Oakland Road, Oakland Terrace, and the list goes on)

I had two of them stolen last year at the same time, again, right off the front porch. I am on a main drag. Now days when we shovel we bring the shovels into the center foyer even if we just rest. Also had a rake stolen off the front porch one lovely fall day.

Next time, tell the shovel thief to shovel your walk for free and then return the shovel. That'll teach him!

I am in the Midland Blvd. area. Have not yet seen shovel theft, but a car was burgled in my driveway -- while I was home (this was like 2 years ago, though). Also, let's not forget the errant dogwalker.

Hmmm must be something wrong with the posting because your post said you lived on Warren. LOL That's why I asked.

scrot, i like reading your posts and you sound intelligent but i cringe every time you say "you should of ..." instead of the correct "you should HAVE ...

you make that mistake over and over and it bugs me!

just a helpful, face-saving hint !

(i know, i'll get over it...but for someone with strong opinions, etc. it diminishes your intelligence when you speak/type incorrectly.)

Well 'Old' if you want to throw rocks at people. I thought a sentence started with a capital letter. The same with someone's name and the word 'I.'

my pleasure, scrotis. ;-)

who is throwing rocks, jta? i'm giving ol' scrot a piece of friendly, constructive criticism. you are the one throwing rocks. besides, i don't like taking the extra time to shift for capitals. think of me as the e.e. cummings of MOL, if that helps.

HeHe I didn't realize you said it 'tongue in cheek.' Sorry. I know the feeling with the 'caps' thing. MOL is about the only place I use them.

I consider stealing shovels to be only slightly less offensive than stealing wheel chairs and crutches.
