If any municipal employees are reading this, a plow hasn't touched my street since early this morning (7 - 8 am or so). Please send a plow. The several inches of snow are now becoming packed down and very slick. I'm afraid tomorrow morning it will be a sheet of ice. |

I talked to someone about this today... the plowing schedule is based purely on tax assessments in the various neighborhoods. Apparently there's a pretty comprehensive map based on this: plowing schedules, manpower assignments, purchases of salt and sand for the roads, everything depends on the taxes. I totally just made that up, but I figured it would annoy the hell out of a few folks - especially today when everyone is sore from shovelling.

haven't seen a plow on my street in over 6 hours and I'm west of the train tracks - I've never heard of plowing based on assessment, that's ridiculous. |

So do you guys think that reading is a lost art these days? Have Americans become a nation of 'skimmers'? Just curious. |

I think that's a pretty good bet, Case. Lord knows I've seen it a lot here! |

The truly excelent part is that there's a good chance she'll never figure out the latter part of this thread. |

Case, LOL! You just defused my annoyance over the fact that the roads have been barely plowed. Good one! |

Update: Plow showed up around 1:30 am. Better late than never. However, by that time road had been thoroughly packed down. |

Plowing is certainly based on taxes. Without taxes the Town wouldn't have money to do the job. Overall, I think given that yesterday morning and early afternoon snow was falling at a rate of two to three inches an hour the Town did a good job. Trucks were out all last night plowing and sanding (I think it was to cold for salt to work). It would be nice if every street was down to the blacktop this morning, but in a storm of this magnitude that isn't going to happen. |

What Case says is true! How could it be otherwise!? That's excellent. Now we can say whatever we want, as long as it's in the first paragraph.

Normally, our street (same as HCH & Me&theboys) is plowed...my mom in Staten Island and I compare notes and she's plowed out much later. For some reason it wasn't done well yet. I don't mind, I have no plans to go driving today and thankfully my husband's car performs better in the snow than mine (he left before 5am). I am not complaining, just surprised, but there is an awful lot of snow out there, even Valley Street doesn't look too well cleared from my view right now. |

The Memorial Park sidewalks along Baker Street were not cleared this morning. Instead, there were huge tire tread marks which led me to believe the snowplow truck just kept running over the curb. Aside from the unplowed streets, being forced to walk on the street creates added dangers. Considering the snow let up at 3pm yesterday, I think the town could have done a better job at clearing the paths. |

VIG is much nicer than I am. I'm really very frustrated by the fact that we didn't see one plow all day yesterday. They came ONCE, very early, and never came back! It snowed ALL DAY and we never saw a plow. Considering all the services we DON'T get for all the taxes we pay (which I'm normally O.K. with), it's very frustrating that we have been ignored, and that our hill is still very difficult to navigate! I picture the guy who's responsible for our neighborhood, hangin' with his buddies all day at Dunkin Donuts, and laughing about us sliding up and down the hill! And I become even more frustrated when I hear about all the other streets that have apparently been cleared! (Sorry, rant over. We're going sledding now. Guess we could just go down OUR hill!) |

That's why my kids did all day yesterday. Reminded me of the good old days when we used to play ball in the street. We'd yell "CAR!" and let the car pass and continue. I even made it down on the sled a few times. (Couldn't master the snowboards though.) |

On our block, kids often play in the street and wait for cars as they pass, which doesn't happen often. I think I live in a Normal Rockwell painting.

I am sure that I am in the minority here...but, I live on a dead end and we usually get plowed pretty regularly - early and often...yesterday the plows did not come through until late afternoon and I personally was glad. Although I missed a big event at church that I wanted to attend, I stayed home and took care of Mr. BGS in between his shoveling and bird feeding and got to finish laundry and cook a good dinner and read...It was so quiet and we got to enjoy the beautiful snow and it was not messed up with the sledders on our street and I do not remember the last time that I was home and had such beautiful quiet all day long! So, thankfully, there were no emergencies where people had to get out and couldn;t and I hope that you all survived well without the early plowing... Peace..... |
