What is the average mortality rate for a thread?

Dave, anyone? I know the "Please Help" section is the shortest, but seems to be among the most active for the number of new posts per day. It appears MOLERS are a very needy group of people...

I'm not sure, but what would most people consider the posting benchmark for a topic to be considered a good thread in say the Soapbox, Political Soapbox, and others sections? Say, 25, 50, 75, or 100 posts?

I did a quick analysis of a few Soapbox archives (248 threads) and the average lifespan was 33 posts. It's a very skewed distribution though - most threads die pretty young. (Median is 18)

The longest-lived thread in this sample was one entitled "Maplewood?????" started by James Brown and killed off by bklyntonj. It had 552 posts.

I'm not proud of my addiction, so I'm glad my average posts in a thread is only four, because that doesn't sound like so many.

I am proud, however, of coining the word "helpy."

I just made up the number. Could be more, could be less.

Helpy is a great word Tom! If it makes it into Webster's I hope that you get credit!

BGS, Tom,

First poop, now helpy. Tom, you're building up quite an on-line resume. And with longevity too.

J.B.
