I am thinking of getting a puppy, since my other half isn't starting work for a few more weeks I thought it would be a good time to get one. I googled a breeder for a pure breed dog I am interested in, contacted this woman, explained my situation, and after she gave me a price I emailed her back that I had spoken with my other half and we needed to speak more because he felt it was very costly. That's about all I told her. She emailed back:

"well, did XXXX give you permission to get your dog?

to tell you the truth, I would not send this puppy or any other puppy to a home where one party to the relationship is in charge, especially the man who has no respect for his femake partner. Obviously what XXXX says
goes!
you have a great passion for a these dogs and you really liked this puppy, but
XXXX thinks your passion is too expensive.
Considering he's not working and you are, I wonder where he gets off telling
you something you want is too expensive. Oh that's right - you have to
support XXXX, so what you spend for a puppy is just that much less than you
can spend on XXXX. And, if the puppy was hit by a car, XXXX would think
it would be too expensive to save the puppy's life. I don't subject my kids
to people like him or homes like yours.
I am always thankful to God that I find out about situations like yours
BEFORE my dogs are subjected to them."

What a loonie.

Or one to keep in the basement in case the other dies. That way you can replace it before anyone is the wiser. "But please make sure they have similar marking so my children are not traumatized!"

Your best bet would be to go to an Animal Shelter/Rescue organization, such as Jersey Animal Coalition in South Orange. They have many desirable dogs, and have special "open house" adoption days with rescued puppies. Check them out at www.jaconline.org. Check out www.petfinder.com to see other local organizations' inventory. GIVE AN ORPHAN A CHANCE!

Since catman mentioned the JAC, I'll plug it by saying that the JAC will be getting some black lab puppies in a week or so.

Cat & Canm,
After years of rescuing, fostering, and placing rescued dogs (I have a track Greyhound rescue), I want to get a breed that I have been interested in for a long time. I am always on the lookout for a rescue though - thanks.

This is how I responded:

"Please do not send me emails like this again or I will report you. I am copying my attorney on this."

I did copy a dear friend who happens to be an attorney. We had a good laugh.

Speaking of "looney" birds, look who's here!

Are you stalking me again?

I'm gonna start my own thread and tell Dave on you!

Unfortunately for you, mem knows me and I'm pretty sure she doesn't consider me a looneybird. Not even close. Nice try though. Where's your pal Water Troll?

Well, I should have known from the wacko's website (note the Bush picture!):

http://www.shefaro.com/

After further research, I found out she was kicked out of the AKA Club, and that when she can't sell puppies she gives them to rescue programs.

yikes.

Find out which rescue programs she dumps at. Go there, get the dog you want, and satisfy Catmanjac's interest in animal rescue.

Save all that money that XXXX is so hung up about that he won't let you get a dog

And everyone lived happily ever after...

Were you so blinded by the pretty Borsoi and those adorable Great Pyrenees puppies, that you didn't notice the "shrine" to "W"? And if you did notice the over the top devotion to him, why, in God's name, did it not set off any alarm bells? Come on mem, you're smarter than that.

Yowsa!

I can only assume she has a good reputation as a breeder of this particular type of dog!

Here is a photo of this man. Look at it. Most of you will recognize him. Please pray for him. Feel free to pass this on to anyone else who will pray for this man. He hasn't asked me to send this request, but I am sure that he will appreciate all your prayers. If you were facing what he is facing, you'd want people praying for you!

Wait a minute. Let's not be too hasty to condemn the breeder who authored the emails.

I have had contact with breeders over the years. Most have genuine and innocent motives, if poorly expressed. They want to make sure that their puppies get into homes that really want them.

That is what differentiates good breeders from the puppy mills.

In addition, the "rescue" operations that exist for most breeds will be very particular about who gets the rescued dogs, to the point of inspecting your home to make sure it is the appropriate home for a rescue dog.

I respect the breeders' and the rescue foundations' attitudes and thoroughness but I admit that this breeder chose the worst possible way to express herself.

I have to admit - I didn't even read one bit of all the stuff on her website at all until I received her ridiculous email with those assumptions about my life. I had used google and chose the top three breeders that popped up to contact initially (you really can't trust google all the time), and I did all this rather in a hurry because a best friend's mom passed away in the middle of my series of inquiries. After I read the woman's website I was aghast. Subsequently, I contacted an AKC board of director and was told that she was kicked out of the AKC for lying about her pedigrees and other behaviors. Apparently she has mental issues as well. I have since found some decent (and normal) breeders here in NJ, but I'm still not sure if I should get a puppy though - it's a big decision!

All I wanted was a dog that could preform well in "special" movies and that I could "get rid of" once filming was done

whoa. she flipped out unnecessarily.

Unfortunately, I have found breeders like this.
A friend of mine in college bought a cat from a breeder and the breeder said, "if for any reason you can't keep Ernie, don't give him to a shelter. Please being him back to me."

ok..so about 8 months down the line my friend's mother is diagnosed with colon cancer and my friend has to move to be with her mom and can't bring the cat. So she brings the cat back to the breeder (not mentioning why, just that she can't take care of Ernie any more) and a week later she gets a horrible letter from the breeder about how irrespinsible she is.

It made a bad situation worse. You aren't the only breeder punching bag out there.
