who was waiting for my parking place. Thanks for not blowing your horn because I was taking so long. My 3 year old was choking on a Jolly Rancher and I was sticking my finger down her throat. If I couldn't get it out, I was going to wave to you to call 911. To the old lady who obliviously cut me in line in Sonny's bakery right before that -- I didn't give it a second thought. To all the rageaholics, including those who hold it in and steam with anger inside about life's little annoyances -- 1. A prominent theologian once said that when you have a problem with another person, look to yourself. 2. Someone wise, but not famous, once suggested that when I had a problem in life, to ask myself, "what is it about me that makes this evitable?" 3. To everyone who's obsessed with aging, you're the lucky ones. Lots of people never get to live that long. 4. To my sister, who would have turned 45 tomorrow -- happy birthday, sis. Losing you was a hard way to learn perspective, but that part of it was your gift to me. |

It's not really a mall. But an outdoor parking lot with stores around it. It's on Vauxhall Road just before Millburn Ave. There's a Drug Fair, Kosher Butcher, Tabachnicks Deli, and about a dozen other stores. |

It's an old fashion mall, that's the way all malls were before they became enclosed. Shopping mall history, http://www.easternct.edu/depts/amerst/MallsHistory.htm |

sk8mom, you are so right. Sometimes you are in a place where other people's behavior doesn't phase you. When that happens to me I marvel at how great things must be going for me not to care about someone else's unsensitivity. But doing the Heimlich on my baby in a parking lot in front of an audience around the anniversary of my sister's death would push me over the edge. Sisters aren't supposed to die on you. I'm sorry that's how you gained your perspective, but I'll bet you know it gives you an insight most around you can never obtain. Stay busy tomorrow and treat yourself to something indulgent to remind yourself how worthy you are. -Lynn |

Here here Sk8mom, I just want to add, that the mind of a frantic mom is appreciated whether in a child's physical emergency or not so emergent situation. Which brings me to another thread. I am friends with the woman in the ice cream shop who gleaned so many posts.... She was a different kind of frantic mom. She is a working mom (outside the home) who was late for her child's family birthday dinner. She is a frequent flyer at the ice cream shop and thought there were more employees like usual behind the counter, so she ran to the end of the counter to retrieve her pre-ordered cake. Yes, she was in a frantic rush. She apologized to the customer behind her, who never said anything directly to her (the barking dog behind glass syndrome of MOL). She feels horrible that she is the cause of such upset. Please understand that was not her initention. |

Speaking of the Millburn Mall, check out the dogs at Syd's. Greasy, but crunchy enough when you bite into them. Fries: A+. Wash the whole mess down with a shake, too! |

I went into Syds one day, had my kids in tow, we sat at the counter and never even got an acknowledgment, I tried to get the waitresses attention but to no avail. Sat there for a few minutes until I finally said the heck with it, took my kids and left, I've never been back. |

Amelia: 'She apologized to the customer behind her, who never said anything directly to her (the barking dog behind glass syndrome of MOL). ' Be fair, I think the poster admitted she didn't say anything directly at the time because she was stunned by the rudeness. Possibly instead of apologising she should have asked first. I think most people would have let in ahead if they knew why. |

I am soooo patient with parking situations like that. I truly don't believe anyone, intentionally sits there to make people wait. There is usually a good reason for a delay. But you may want to rethink the Jolly Rancher next time. I used to have trouble managing that candy in my mouth when I was 8. As for your loss, I feel for you because I too lost my "sister" best friend (in '02 at 38). It still cuts like a knife, but I put the perspective in gear the same way you do. FWIW, Syd's is off my list too! Although my kids and I did get served, we were constantly being looked at with "not so friendly" glares. My husband had the same experience. My only reason for stopping in that mall is for Drug Fair. |

...and no, we were not being noisy or unruly. It just seems like they have a regular set that goes there and if they are not familiar with you, it's out of their comfort zone. |

Will someone fill these people in on the origin or Syd's in Newark many years ago? My grandfather, a prominent physician, told my mother (when she was a child) never to go there, but on one occassion when she snuck in, who was at the end of the counter eating a hot dog?! You guessed it! |

Scully- Catman said his grandfather told his (Catman's) mother when she (his -catman's mother) not to go in there. When she did, she saw her father (Catmans's grandfather) at the other end of the counter. Get it now that I confused you more? LOL |

The Millburn Mall - not a mall and not in Millburn (it's in Vaux Hall, Union County) - go figure |

JTA- Thanks! My mind was going in an entirely different direction! Now, about when she said 'Will someone fill these people in on the origin of Syd's in Newark many years ago?' That sounds ominous... Are we implying shady origins here? And I can't understand a business of that nature ignoring customers with or without kids. They could turn out to be the new 'regulars' as time goes on. What kind of business are they? Independently wealthy and staying open as a hobby? |

Ominous? No. And "Aunt", you've got it right. Surely there must be someone old enough to have known of Syd's when it was in Newark. I'm talking about the 1930's and 40's, maybe even earlier. My grandfather started practicing medicine in 1901 at the original Beth. He probably delivered some of your parents. (And to be specific, I don't mean delivered food from Syd's. I mean delivering babies.) |

Whoops, sorry, I thought this thread was about hot dogs and fries. When it comes to attending to onboard saftey precautions and emergency medical procedures, I couldn't care less -- and I mean this quite literally -- if someone is waiting for my parking space. They can honk and gesticulate all they want. But in my mind, they don't even exist when I'm focused on a safety mission. If they expose their lower primate brain by blowing their stupid SUV horn, I don't hear it. Actually, it probably reminds me to take my time. Reject Type A vehicle parkers in 2006. |

2 disturbing points here: 1. You gave a Jolly Rancher to a 3 year old 2. You shoved your fingers down her throat to dislodge it A solution: NEVER give a 3 yr old hard candy. If you do, learn the Heimlich Maneuver...because you'll need it. |

The Millburn Mall is in Union. Tabatchniks is worth a visit! So is Sonny Amster's bakery. We love DRUG FA for its badness. We call it DRUG FA because for years the lights in "IR" were out. sk8mom that was a beautiful post. But as Jay060 points out, if your post was literally true, please learn CPR, and at least make sure the candy is on a stick.
