Hi,

Did anyone's kids attend the We Care Arts and Environmental Camp during Winter Break? Would love to get some feedback. I'm thinking of signing up my kids for the summer program.

Thanks

I'd like to know more too, but I think you would get more response if you posted this in the education or please help section. Otherwise people will provide uhelpful comments like the one above.

exactly. Here you'll be told programs like this sound pathetic. Try sending your kid to a camp where he or she can play ball and make friends who have normal parents instead. I mean you want to teach your child about the enviroment? Tell them to clean their room for starters..

comments like this is what you get in the soapbox because here we can say anything we want.

Cathstrat,

My ten-year-old daughter attended the vacation session. She had a good time and there was a nice variety of activities. For the summer sessions, just take a look at the program and see if you like it. The programs are mapped out in good detail.

My 9 1/2 year old was there as well. She had a good time, learned some new skills (she took the film-making class) and made some new friends. There was some physical activity built in but not a whole lot as the weather and facility were not conducive to same. They had planned a ski/tubing/hiking event for the last day at Bear Mountain, I think. The snow did not cooperate but they did play and hike outdoors there and do the nature/science activities originally planned.

I asked my kid if she would recommend it to others and she said "Yes!" She enjoyed the filmmaking, science, and art opportunities as well as the less structured time. There were workshops in photography, acting, writing and a bunch of other things, too.

The summer program will be at a school, I believe, or at one of our parks so there will be lots more opportunity for outdoor recreation. I would not have any hesitation to send a child to the summer program. The people running the place seem to be trying very hard to provide an interesting, varied, cooperative experience for the kids. They set clear behavioral expectations the first day and, as far as I could tell, followed through appropriately but in a warm, friendly way. The staff were all adults but I'd guess they'll need to hire some younger counselors for the summer program. Hopefully they'll give them a good orientation/training period and provide good supervision.
