How long should it take to get dinner delivered? Last night we ordered from a restaurant here in Maplewood that is maybe ten blocks away. When I placed the order, I spelled the name of our street FOUR times and told them that it is off of Valley. After 45 minutes we got a call asking for our street name and where it is; we were then assured that he'd be there in a few minutes. Twenty minutes later my husband called and was told that the driver had left and was on his way. Our food arrived an hour and fifteen minutes after we had placed the order. Not only was it cold, but it was also wet, as one of the containers had a hole in it. A call to the manager gave us a feeble, "Oh, gee, sorry." An assurance that this was an anomaly would have been nice. We've lived in Maplewood for nearly five years. We only order in about once a week and we realize that here in the burbs delivery is not as fast as it was in Brooklyn. We have ordered from two places in Millburn that often deliver in less time than they indicate - a pleasant surprise! Last night's nonsense just seemed a bit ridiculous. Obviously we won't order from that establishment again. After waiting so long, I guess we had a bad taste in our mouths - the food wasn't as good as we had expected. Rant over. Thanks. |

I'm with you, cpp... you have every reason to be annoyed. Maybe pickup works for some occasions or some families, C. De Mar, but if a place says they deliver, then they should deliver in the time frame they quote... |

Yeah but if you are going to have a stick up your butt about delivery times and the restaurant is only five minutes away, why not just pick the food up yourself? |

If I order in it's because I didn't want to set foot outside my house again that day! I hate when the wait time is long AND the food comes cold! I would have called and let them know how disappointed I was and that for this reason I woul not be using them any more ...nor would I recommend them to any one else. Hopefully they would care enough to get it together for others in the future...a good business man would contact you and offer you an order equivalent to your cold meal to make up for your disappointment. Well ...that would be in "my world"...ya think they might do that? |

Charles & the Man obviously never have been left alone in the house during dinner time with small children. |

You should post the name of the place as a warning to others... before the big-brother anti-anonymity law goes into effect! Its a very frustrating thing when a restaurant can't do something as simple as deliver food properly though... makes you wonder.

My husband and I have three small children (an almost-three-year-old and twin one-year-olds). While we waited for our food we fed the kids and got them ready for bed. As many of you can imagine, the 2 - 3 hours from the beginning of dinner until the kids are in bed are a bit crazy in our house. After a long day, we were looking forward to a quiet dinner with the convenience of not having to cook or clean the kitchen. We usually cook. We don't mind picking up dinner if a place doesn't deliver. We just don't understand why a place offers delivery and then executes so poorly. We did call the restaurant as soon as we realized that the food was cold and that one dish had leaked all over everything. The manager's lame apology ensured that we won't ever order from them again and we certainly won't recommend them to others. Any offer from the manager to make amends (free desserts? 20% off our next order?) would have left us thinking more kindly of this establishment. |

I agree, it's frustrating & was handled poorly by the manager of the restaurant. I was only giving a suggestion to pick it up next time, since it is so close to your house. Rock on.

CPP: I feel your pain, but did you move to MPLWD from Brooklyn for faster take out? The pace is a little slower out here in the 'wood. Take your time and look at the emerging crocuses. |

Tuesday Night I ordered takeout from Hunan Wok on Springfield. I was very sick and my husband was late. The food came in 20 minutes, 15 minutes LESS than they told me. The vegetarian hot & sour soup helped too!

VIG: Last night we ordered from Ling Ling in Millburn. They delivered in less time than they tell you, as is the case more often than not. Joe R: We moved here for many of the same reasons many people do - a house, a yard, great community to raise a family, etc. While we don't expect the variety and speed of take out delivery that we enjoyed in Brooklyn, we also do not expect poor service from restaurants or other establishements. If they can't handle delivering their food reasonably warm and in less than an hour then they shouldn't try. P.S. My 400+ daffodils are coming up nicely, thank you. |

Great on the daffodils and next year you'll have 800++. It's just that your post suggested that the reason your take-out experience was bad was because you weren't in Brooklyn anymore. I'm willing to bet there's more than one case of food poisoning walking around in Brooklyn on any given night. You won't starve here. |
