See this many times on the GSP with EZ Pass - drivers who come to a complete stop at the tolls instead of rolling through at the posted speed (or faster). Come on folks - didn't you get EZ Pass so you wouldn't have to stop at the toll!? |

newone, yes yes yes!! That drives me nuts. I call these people "Pennsylvania Drivers" because you have to slow down to 5 mph for EZPass in PA - which I think is absurd. I like the high-speed EZPass lanes the best, where you maintain full speed. (there are some on the parkway south right before it divides, and one coming off the tpk exit 6 going into PA.) |

FYI - A few years ago I received a letter from the GSP/EZ Pass that I exceeded the 5 mph speed limit for the EZPass lane and that my privileges were revoked for 6 months! They didn't say I didn't pay...I was going slowly enough so that the toll was paid and they got a crystal clear shot of my plate. |

In Europe you drive through EZ Pass at 80 miles per hour. That's the whole point - you don't even slow down! |

Pet peeve that is (believe it or not) unrelated to driving: I usually get a few hundred dollars out of the ATM at a time, so that I'm not always running out of cash. So I tend to get a bunch of $50 bills. Nobody accepts these. Nobody. |

Garbage trucks always driving on the wrong side of the road. Seems somewhat dangerous to me, especially when I need to pass them going in either direction. |

I think he means make one trip, but take out a bunch of smaller withdrawals. A few $60 withdrawals would get you all 20's. |

When SUV's are parked over the white line, taking up almost two spaces, forcing me to park right up next to their driver side doors hoping they won't be able to get in and will have to climb through the passenger side to get to their seats, hopefully learning the lesson that they are taking up too much space in the world. (Sorry to the person who hates run-on sentences.) Oh, McMansions are another pet peeve, and people who leave up their holiday decorations too long. |

Sports shouters. These are the big, bald-headed or shaved-headed ex-high school atheletes who stand at the bar and make know-it-all pronouncements about sports at the top of their lungs to other guys, some of whom are sports shouters and some aren't. They speak in an over-confident, know-it-all tone that suggests severe lack of self-esteem. They're rude, selfish and often self-parodying.

Katie Couric's oily, syrupy sentimental voice, look, and tone when she does one of her melodramatic interviews with the relative/spouse/son/daughter/mother/father/second cousin once removed of someone who has been kidnapped/shot/drowned/burned/lost in a snowstorm/left for dead/buried alive/elected as dogcatcher/found guilty/found innocent/just plain found, or just plain lost. |

Rebates. Rebates. Rebates. Just called kingstonn to find out if my rebate check is going to be mailed today, as promised on. It's been "processing" for about 6 weeks. I spoke to a nice young lady who used the word "processing" about 10 times during our 1 minute conversation. Apparently "processing" means opening the amil, entering the information into the system, and getting ready to mail out a check. And this 4-6 week turn around time is one of their shorter processing times. I guess the one person they have opening all the mail and entering the info was sick for a few weeks and has quite a backlog. To be fair, this is definitely one of the shorter turn around times I've seen advertised. And Kingston does give you access to more information than most. But I find it hilarous that this woman actually tried to justify the delay by saying it takes a long time to open the mail and put it into the system. And yes, I know why companies offer mail in rebates (though the idea of an "instant rebate" always eluded me - why not a sale price?), and I've always found it to be sleazy. |

People with no artistic training, or even knowledge, who make snap aesthetic judgments. The Tony Smith sculpture debate is a case in point. I can't stand it when people who choose paintings to match their sofas feel qualified to call a sculpture "junk" based on a blurry photo they saw on the internet. The same goes for people who barely have the patience to sit through a four-minute pop song but feel they're qualified to call modern music "noise." Stick with what you know: "I don't like it" is reasonable. So is "I don't understand it." In the case of the soon-to-be-a-fiasco sculpture debate, "we shouldn't spend our money this way," "the SO Gov is blowing smoke up our collective asses," and "it doesn't fit in the site I prefer the fountain" are all legitimate and probably true. But please, don't pretend you know anything about art if you don't. - - - - - - - Note to Rastro: Verizon was pretty good about their phone rebates, it took only about two weeks to get checks in the mail. |

People who are online at the store and realize that, as their order is being rung up, they forgot something and have the nerve to leave the line and chase down that item in the aisles - in the meantime, everyone behind them is waiting in line until they return because the cashier can't move ahead without this person returning with their desparately needed item.... |

People who live in Maplewood and try to tell people who live in South Orange to rejoice in spending their hard-earned tax dollars on a humk of metal, and who, when the people who live in South Orange object to spending their tax dollars on a hunk of metal, accuse us of having no artistic training or knowledge about art. |

I've got one that I'm sure should bug me. Was in line at the Pathmark, 4th position and we all had pretty full carts. Not enough cashiers, stuff moving slowly. ANYWAY..there's a teenage girl with a cart, and what looked to be her dad. He kept going off and continuing the shopping while she held the place. It was really bugging some of us, I think because we were all sizing up each other's carts to gauge how much longer. So, legit peeve, or not? I'm thinking not legit, and I've been pondering ever since why we all were so provoked (this I know because we were exchangin glances, eyeball rolling etc). |

Quote:"we shouldn't spend our money this way," "the SO Gov is blowing smoke up our collective asses," and "it doesn't fit in the site I prefer the fountain" are all legitimate and probably true.
People who read a quote like that (emphasis added) and think the writer is in favor of the sculpture in South Orange and believes you should be too (he's not, and he doesn't), when he's only trying to indicate that one shouldn't denigrate an artist's work as "junk" or a "humk of metal" unless one has the professional knowledge to back it up in an authoritative way. You wouldn't appreciate it if someone who didn't have a clue about what you for a living do blithely dismissed it, would you? - - - - - People who get their order all rung up and bagged and it suddenly dawns on them that they have to pay for it, and only then begin rummaging around deep in their purse or tote bag for the checkbook. |

I have plenty of clues as to what that sculpture is about, thank you. I was an art history minor in college, albeit back in the 60's; I am an art collector, although modestly; I am highly educated. And I know a hunk of metal when I see it. However, like most of my fellow citizens, my objection is not to the piece itself, but to the underhanded manner in which it is being foisted upon us, and to the horrendous expense which will accompany it. And, let's not forget the demolition of a gazebo and fountain where I see senior citizens chatting in the summer, people sheltering from the rain as they wait to be picked up at the station, and small children enjoying the ambiance. |
