Yesterday evening during rush hour, the 23rd st/Hoboken bound station devoted 3 of 5 turnstiles to "Smart Card only" passengers. Needless to say, the other two turnstiles had lines almost up the stairs, while the smart card lanes were empty. I didn't see a single person go through. what gives? It is my understanding these cards are being tested and very few passengers actually have them. Do any of my fellow MOLers have them?

That's one way to FORCE you to switch. It's an effective method, it worked for EZ PASS too. |

shestheone - It's a new card that will work like an EZ Pass and be good across different transportation platforms. It's still in the testing phase and not everyone can get one. which is why I can't understand how 3 turnstiles could be devoted to them during rush hour! |

Someone must have messed up, Pippi. Downtown I've only seen one Smart Card turnstyle at a time, if that. |
