From the 3/23 police report page in the online version of the News Record: On March 7, a Maplewood Avenue resident, reported that his 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX was stolen from his driveway. Left on the victim’s front lawn was another Subaru Impreza, which had been reported stolen to Newark police earlier that same day. What's the lesson here, hope you have a slightly crummier version than the currently stolen model? Even car thieves will trade up? |

Years ago, a co-worker had his car (which he himself described as his crummy car) stolen from a parking lot in Newark. While his car was probably easier to break into than other cars in the lot, he still couldn't figure out why the thieves would want his car. His car was found at the Short Hills Mall, near where a "Beemer" had been stolen. The police told him that some thieves steal any car they can in order to "commute" to the 'burbs, to get a car that they really want. |

An old friend of ours had her "wreck" stolen in front of her house in Newark off S.O. Ave. When found a couple of days later the police located several illegal weapons in the back seat. The police questioned her closely as to whether they were hers. To which she badly wanted to say, "Duh, no!" But, as a high school English teacher she felt compelled to respond with more civility. |
