Sabbath is great either way, but I have NEVER been able to settle this debate to my satisfaction. Any thoughts? |

Ozzy had better songs to sing. I am a HUGE Ozzy/Sabbath fan and I just never could get into Ronnie -John |

Neither--they both suck. Three cords and a scream of pain, that is about it. (Wait for me to put on a raincoat before I get pelted with decapitated chickens by all the Ozzie fans) |

Pelted with chickens by Ozzie fans? Which Ozzie? Davis, Smith, or Nelson perhaps?

I have a feeling some would consider this sacrilege, but I always preferred Dio-era Sabbeth much much more than Ozzy-era Sabbeth. I don't know how much of this has to do with the fact that I musically came of age at the ripe age of twelve, when I found my older brother's cassette tape of Heaven & Hell on a family trip and ended up listening to it over and over. I was a big Dio fan during my first two years of high school, but Sacred Heart seemed a little too cheesy for my taste (or was I just getting older?), and I lost interest. Now how about Rainbow singers - Dio or Joe Lynn Turner? |

Turner by a long shot. Dio's sound never seemed to fit with the band, IMNSHO. |

What about Graham Bonnet in Rainbow? One of my favorite vocalists. |

The rumor mill always had Ozzy getting a little vocal help from the board. |

It's no rumor. It's a fact. Ever notice that he sings into 2 mics? 1 normal, 1 "Flange" effect. He still rules. |

I think Rainbow was at their most popular when Turner was with the band so I can see how someone would identify with that lineup the most. I think Dio formed Rainbow with Blackmore back in the mid or late 70s - I really liked Long Live Rock & Roll (although its been around 20 years since I listened to it, and had to look it up on Amazon-I couldn't rememvber the name of the album) I can't remember anything with Bonnet, at all, though! I do have a vague memory, if I am in fact remembering this correctly, of seeing that line up on some late night music show back in the mid-80s. |

I love Ozzy, but the answer for me is always "Dio". I agree what you guys say about Rainbow, though... still, Dio is the man. Stephanie, if you've never seen the Dio videos please PL me and I'll make arrangements for you to get a copy... they are great!

I think the Grahm Bonnet-era songs are "Since You've Been Gone" and "All Night Long". As for Black Sabbath I have to vote Dio only for the fact that he didn't have all of that studio enhancement on his voice. Ah, Dio the metal midget |

Geez, I can't believe this debate is even happening; seems sacrilegious to anyone who's a Sabbath fan. It's like asking if Van Halen was better w/ David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar. I think the early Sabbath stuff holds up to anything in the "heavy metal" genre (including Zeppelin, and I'm a huge Zeppelin fan). In fact, I daresay that Sabbath can stake more of a claim as being the "heavy metal" originators than Zeppelin. When Ozzy left (got booted?), it all sounded like pedestrian arena rock to me (as did VH post-Roth) -- competant but hardly transcendent. I haven't been a fan of what Ozzy has done post-Sabbath, but I think for those first four years (I think he joined Iommi and the guys to form Sabbath when he was just 17) they were phenomenal. I'm going to go listen to Fairies Wear Boots now. |

That's a very tough call - I liked Sammy Hagar before he joined up, but I have to say... there's only one real Van Halen in my book. To be honest, I don't really have a book - but I will always prefer the original Van Halen. |

If you think of Van Halen and Van Hagar as different bands, it's much easier to like both. |

Outside of the MTV hits, Rainbow was never that popular here. My European travels as a young man garnered me an extensive Rainbow LP collection. They were for my money definitely an underrated band, especially in the early (Dio) years. |

I think Diamond Dave is history on 92.3. Wasn't on this AM. as for the Sammy vs Dave , no contest I think DD is one of the great front men of all time , as for Sammy ,Warner Bros presents spent a lot time blaring from the GSstage1's Craig 8-track while pealing out of HS. |
