There's this guy on a motorcycle that zooms down my street really fast - probably around 70mph. The speed limit is 25mph. I'm concerned for the safety of the many kids who live here, and of other drivers. Plus his bike is so f-ing loud. I am fairly positive he lives on my street, I'm just not sure where. I tried to find him a couple times, but he always pulls into his driveway and seems to disappear. I've called the cops about 3 or 4 times over the last year or so, but by the time they arrive, he's gone. Suggestions? Because he comes and goes at different times during the day, it's hard to catch him. |

Try to get a license plate number. If you can write down one more digit every day it won't take long. It used to be that for $10 the DMV would send you the name and address of the plate holder. That was a few years ago. I would assume that they still do it. Although I don't know if the price has increased. Then you could just syphon out the gas from his bike all the time. With no gas he won't get too far. |

You could fashion some sort of net to catch the guy the next time he comes roaring by. I think I saw it in one of the Mad Max movies. In Thunderdome there are no rules. |

It's a tough one, for sure. I like the idea of the license plate, but it can be difficult to catch a tag in this situation. Have you called MPD about it yet? I realize that you can't give them a name and address... but it's entirely possible that they might already know who this genius is; it NEVER hurts to call the police and let them know what's going on in your neighborhood. |

Put a sign up in your front lawn that says something like "Brand New 2006 Harley-Davidson for sale. Must sell! Asking $150 or best offer" At least that might make him slow down enough so you can take down his license plate number.... |

Case - I've called SOPD several times. Unless I have a plate number, they really can't help. LilLB - good suggestion. |

I'm sure if you ask some of your neighbors, one of them will know the owner of the bike. |

Not that I am suggesting this, but during WWII Allied troops used to stretch a piece of piano wire across the road at neck height to get rid of those nasty Nazi dispatch riders on their BMWs. |

Keep trying to find this nut and report him. Our streets aren't appropriate for powerful cycles. A couple of years ago I was in my yard gardening when a motorcyclist on a Harley came around the bend, lost control and hit a tree in the berm only a few feet from where I was working. If not for that tree I would have been hit. Turns out the driver was a friend who borrowed the Harley to try it out and only made it 3/4 of a block before he lost control. His passenger broke a leg. When the owner arrived, his only concern was whether his Harley was hurt! Later I heard that the poor passenger had multiple surgeries as a result of the accident. I also learned a lesson on perception. I always thought of the incident as "the motorcycle that tried to kill me." Several years later, the owner's wife (now divorced) saw me and asked if "I was the lady who helped her sister." |

Maybe if you're lucky he'll lay his bike down against the gate at the end of the street. Okay, that wasn't very nice. But at least he'll stop! |
