And now that the Education section exists, why won't Dave/Jamie move these threads over to the Education section? Do I have to post something about Republicans, Libertarians and Democrats to have these threads moved into the Political Soapbox? |

Re "And now that the Education section exists" I can't find it, yet ... where is it? By the way, I think that when it comes back, perhaps it should be in the "Debate Forums" section rather than the "General Areas" where it used to live. |

Since the education section (at the very top of the threads) is moderated - controlled - there is still the need for those of us who like to live a little on the wild side with our quips to post here. |

The new and reformated Education Section is now at the top of the message board main menu. All of the topics (about half a dozen of them thus far) have been pre-selected. The link to the section contains the disclaimer that posts to that section may be deleted at any time for any reason and the section has been closed to new topics so I assume Dave gets to chose all the title headings there from now on. It is a real shame with the board of education election only two weeks away that serious discussion of key election issues and opportunity for candidate input into these discussions has to be so stifled. |

I can't find an appropriate place there, so I'll post a suggestion here ... Dave, it seems like you might want to have a section in the new Education topic that discusses the ground rules AND provides a forum for people to suggest new topic categories for it. (or make other suggestions such as this one) |

You can start new threads within the general topic areas that Dave created. I don't really think it's stifled, it's just moderated. It doesn't seem to be moderated to the extent that he pre-approves every post though. I think that Dave and/or Jamie will just take away posts that are inappropriate. I expect Education is now moderated because some of the stuff that is posted there has the potential to cause trouble, e.g. discussions of specific personnel, students, etc. Yet there was also complaining about Dave taking threads away, closing down the whole board, etc. If he says up front that this is a moderated area, nobody can really complain if he does this. I am just guessing and I hope I'm not putting words in Dave mouth. I wonder though if making it moderated actually puts them at greater risk - because a moderated board is liable for libel etc. whereas an open one is not (because moderation implies editorial control). I also think sac's idea about how to suggest new general topic ideas is a good one. And I wonder, too, whether promoting certain topics to the "top level" gives them too much priority. E.g, does the illegal students thing deserve top billing? Obviously those who think it's a big deal may think so, but not everybody thinks it's a big deal. Is there any way to let the community provide input on these areas, other than just this kind of ad-hoc discussion? |

I also like SAC's suggestion. While it is possible to start sub-topics in the new education section, it might be difficult to find a new thread on a comparison of curriculum in the various elementary schools in the district (just as an example) if it were placed in a totally unrelated topic. |

Libby, I'm sorry you had to hear about my unfaithfulness in that way in front of the entire community. It must have been hard for you. And for that, I apologize, truly with all my heart. You're not hurt or jealous that I've been seeing SLK and Straw, right? I mean, we never explicitly stated that ours was a committed relationship. No hurt feelings. OK? |
