I just heard my doorbell ring. I go out... it's the police. She just wanted me to know that from the corner you could see right into my garage and with the TV and Bikes in there I was just inviting trouble. The kids were out playing pool and left it up, which knowing them it could have stayed open all night. Since we did have our prized Cannondale stolen this summer, I really appreciate the heads up. Keep up the good work Maplewood Police! Now that's a community. |

It's too bad they pulled me over twice in one night for having my center brakelight out..and both times intimidated me and claimed that they smelled alcohol and whatnot. They continued to harrass me about "where the parties were" until they got bored and let me go. |

A few years back I was awakened by 2 men calling my name. I thought I was dream ing,it was about 6:00am. Realizing this was not a dream I looked out my front windows. Standing there were 2 police officers. They asked my name and if I was having a problem. Confused I went to the front door. They handed me my purse? Seems neighbors down the street found it on their deck. I had left it on my kitchen table the night before. Upon "my" investigation I realized someone had climbed up on my BBQ,broken in to a window and stole the purse. They must've taken what they wanted then tossed it. I thought it was a very strange to find out someone was in my home by the police. But stranger that it was me who found out how they got gained access etc... It reminded me of the time my neighbor told me that a friend of hers (elderly woman)called the police because her door was ajar, they showed up right away...but had her walk in first?? lol } |

I recommend not keeping bicycles in the garage unless you lock it habitually. They're easy to steal and hard to trace and recover. We have nothing of value in our garage.

Tom, thanks for the "heads up" about not keeping anything of value in the garage. I just took the car out and put it on the street. JC |

Oh crap, we've been hiding our jewelry in the garage. In the bike's tires. OOps. J.B. |

Yooze guys have inferred from me "don't leave anything of value in the garage" which I would not say. We don't, because we have no lock on ours. I just advise no bikes in an unlocked garage. You can't make a quick getaway on a lawnmower. Cars are more easily recovered than bicycles.

Tom, please don't take his bait. He tried once, got no response, so he served up again. Ignore him. |

We had someone make a quick getaway on a gas grill from our garage once. We were away from the house for about an hour or so. The garage was closed but not locked. Unfortunately I still believe it was a spite payback (or scouted theft) for an argument I had with a guy who did a quick lawn-cutting job for us once. You know, the kind where the guy says I'll do the lawn using your mower for $20 (on a miserable hot summer day when you just can't stand the thought of spending another hour working in the sun and you know if you wait til nearly dark the skeeters'll eat ya alive.) We had an electric at the time and I warned him about not running over the cord. Guy runs over the cord, of course, just at the point of finishing the job. I say we have a problem. He wants to come in to discuss it. No. I agree he did the job but now I'll have to spend $10 to replace the cord. He says duct tape. I say no, new cord. Here's $10. He huffs and puffs but eventually takes the ten and goes on his way. A couple of days later we come home from a quick errand on Sunday afternoon to see the garage door slightly ajar (or is it a-up.) |

Lesson learned: NEVER let people who wander the street do any work for you, not shovel, not yard cleaning, not mowing...nothing. It will come back to bite you in the |
