I was introduced to a person who lives on my street yesterday. Never saw this neighbor before but I am always happy to meet new neighbors, since I work long hours and am not around much. My new neighbor proceeds to tell me all about an accident that happened to my new puppy (will these people will call DPFS?), and something about not me not being able to buy my house if I purchased it now (which is incorrect, because I could). Should this gossip network bother me? Yikes.

Nah, let it go. It's just not that big of a deal - those kind of people will never change. Having said that, if they ever get some GOOD gossip about you have them sign up for a MOL account and post it. Pictures would be appreciated too! PS - I think I could buy my house if I purchased it now, but I'm honestly not sure. PPS - Of course, since I'm a nice guy I would give myself a good price for purchasing my house, so I guess I could afford it.

No Robert, my house is not made out of glass, because I don't gossip about my neighbors. And no, I do not think my house is affordable to you. |

How's the puppy? And, much as I love my house, I wouldn't buy it now because I'd hate to have to choose between the mortgage and food. |

Greenetree - I could afford it, but I'm too smart to live on peanut butter myself. Here's the puppy!: (and Jack)

JTA, We were surprised, but everybody has a bad day. Wendy, Sailor is a Borzoi. I wasn't sure I could keep him - I had an agreement with the breeder that if he didn't get along with Jack I would have to bring him back, but, they seem to be getting along now!

Thanks Red and Lil! I felt it was a good time to get him with regard to Kitty, who has serious dementia and is planted permanently in the basement next to the furnace. This has been going on for six months, after multiple visits to the vet and attempts to get him back upstairs (where he just panics) I had to give up and let him live out his life the way he wants. At least he doesn't have to deal with the puppy. - edited to add - I didn't intend this thread to gossip about my neighbor, note I didn't say anything ABOUT this person and I wouldn't anyway, I was just repeating back what was said to me because it bothered me and I wanted to see what you guys think. |

Poor, poor Jack. First the screaming cat with dementia, now the suckling puppy. Tell him to keep this on him at all times in case he needs to get away.

Cutie, cutie pup-u-lence! Congratulations mem. I would say it definately looks like they are getting along! As for the neighbor, perhaps you could look at it in a positive way. If something awful were to happen, you know you'd have a set of eyes looking out for you? That might be the way I'd feel, particularly since--as you yourself admit--you work long hours and you aren't around much. Just a thought. |

MeAnd, Good point - all my neighbors tend to be really good people and I really like them. Now I am wondering if my household is a nuisance to them I was genuinely wondering what my MOL friends thought. Las, How about I drop Jack off Friday after dinner and then pick him up Sunday night? Thanks.

My neighbor when he first introduced himself to me, pointed out how we hadn't moved the car in a few weeks (we had just gone on a vacation) and I gotta tell ya, it was a very odd thing to hear. I'm sure he intended for us to feel safer because he's looking out for our home. And I know we live in an affluent area so he probably isn't casing our house to rob us, but still... I don't know this person. I felt a bit creeped out admittedly. Mem the dog is unbelievably adorable. I am worried about the cat though. Isn't there anything we can do? I wouldn't normally suggest this to any pet owner, but have you considered finding the kitty a new home? Maybe if she was in a different environment she might not be so terrified and need to hide so much. Please don't take that the wrong way. It's just the image of an adorable cat hiding it's life in the dark dangerous basement with not human or animal interaction well just sorta seems sad to me. |

Alleygator, I couldn't dare think about placing Kitty in a new home, he wouldn't be able to find his beloved furnace and his bed. It's awful to see how terrified he is to be brought upstairs, and he used to love to hang out on the golf course, but when we put him outside he runs and hides, crying for his furnace. The vet says it's his age, he's now 19. I'll keep trying with him, in case the dementia reverses itself. Thanks for the kind advice though. |

Poor baby. Yeah - at this age, the best thing is to cater to them and make them comfortable. Your pics make me want a dog. But, I'm not sure that the dog and I would do well wandering the streets of Maplewood, looking for a place to sleep. |

Mem- she loves dogs (animals of all kinds) but doesn't think we have the dog lifestyle. Of course, it could be the way I phrase the question: "When you retire, can I get a dog?" Either way, I'm sure she'll feed us. |

I hear you. You can always rescue a greyhound. They are couch potatoes who require little maintaince, or a Borzoi (same personality). But it's still a lot of responsibility. SO comes home for lunch every day to take care of Sailor, and he has Jack to hang with. Otherwise - we couldn't do it either.
