As a lapsed democrat I guess I just don't get why I still see cars driving around our area ( normally Toyota Camrys- kind of a mixed message, no?) bearing Kerry/Edwards bumper stickers. Are the drivers saying " We're losers and we're proud of it"? " Don't blame us"? " Democrats are too lazy to clean their cars"? Is there a secret society going on that I don't know about? I mean it seems pretty ridiculous two years later to be driving around with them on your car. At least get new stickers, maybe " Impeach Bush" or " I Hate Karl Rove". Seems like a loopy sort of " we know better" elitism going on here that kind of caused Kerry to lose the last time. |

I don't really understand why anyone puts any bumper stickers at all on their cars, but particularly political election ones - it's such a temporary thing - why would you put a bumper sticker on that is pretty permanent? Those things are hard to remove, right? |

"Those things are hard to remove, right?" Extremely hard! Maybe it's the same mindset that drives people to tatoo their bodies with the name of their significant other. If you split up, you have only three choices if you're going to continue wooing the opposite sex. 1. Laser Removal (Ouch & expensive) 2. Tatoo over the offending name (Double ouch and also expensive) 3. Date someone with the same name and surprise them on the third outing! |

Factvsfiction, are you too young to remember the heyday of the bumper sticker? Nearly every car had at least one bumper sticker. And most of them were out of date. They are irremovable, so it made an eyesore of a roadscape, with irrelevant -- and sometimes embarrassing -- messages. That's why bumper stickers are pretty rare these days. Why are you asking about Kerry/Edwards stickers and not Bush/Cheney stickers? I see equal amounts of both.

No - these stickers are not difficult to remove at all. I had one on my car. When I returned from work one day, it was gone; someone had peeled it off. So really, the only excuse for leaving a Kerry/Edwards sticker in place is to advertise the fact that you didn't vote for Bush. Maybe it's a "don't blame me" mentality. |

That's why I don't have kids. Any progeny of mine would invariably have been over-achieving geniuses who would bring home those "honor student" stickers and expect me to put them on my car. |

The Honor student ones crack me up. What pressure -- I mean -- if you don't stay an honor student forever, it's a constant reminder of your failure to maintain that level of achievement.... and your parents are the ones reminding you by keeping that bumper sticker on the family car! (And, really, how could any parent remove that without bruising the kid's ego?) |

Based on some of the parenting techniques discussed in other threads, I'm sure that we will start seeing "My kid had Cirque du Soliel perform at his Tuscan graduation" bumper stickers. |

Tom Reingold- Are you then saying you still have an " I like Ike " sticker on your car (possibly a Rambler)? Rastro- " I Break For Re-Evaluations" sticker? ess- "Karl Rove is The Anti-Christ" sticker?

Rastro- You don't want to hit the reval company/ tax assessor crossing the street to inspect homes, of course. I will go back to the segment later today Rastro, but the proof is in the pudding, lets see how the re-val plays out and then comment. |

I don't want to get into it here, but suffice it to say that I am sure the BOT will raise the town budget in the year after a reval. The question is which is the cause and which is the effect. |

MichaelaM- But what happens if, for example, the Republicans create bumper stickers for the next election that look exactly like the "Kerry/Edwards" 2004 stickers? (Drat, that Karl Rove is smart) Will all the dems be out there on the driveway removing them in a wink? And what will "gum out" stock be trading at as a result? Bet you Howard Dean hasn't thought of that one, right? |

at this point in time, the question should not be "Why do people still have Kerry/Edwards stickers on their cars?" it should be "Why the hell do people still have 'W' stickers on their cars?" I'm proud to say I voted for Kerry, but I can imagine there are lots of W supporters out there who are now feeling serious buyers' remorse. |

Dr. Winston - excellent point. IF I had a "W" sticker (which I most assuredly do not and never have), you can bet I would be scraping that off with every ounce of energy I have. Then I would apologize to my children. |

Dr Winston- Have only seen 3 Bush stickers in 2006, but a lot more Kerry stickers. My theory: as corporate titans repubs have much more expensive cars and don't want to ruin the finish. |

I saw 2 "W" sticker on the GSP yesterday. Both were on out-of-state cars. I kept wondering if they knew how ridiculous they looked driving down the highway proclaiming their support for the worst president ever. |

The best of the "My Child" or "Proud Parent of" stickers was one I saw in a music video that said, "Proud Parent of a D Student". I see a lot of Kerry stickers, but my read is they are mostly on SUVs. |
