The story of the courage of United Airlines flight 93 passengers on 9-11 is a compelling and heartbreaking one. However like many events, such as the Kennedy assasination, there are people who don't share the conventional view of what occured or who is responsible. In the case of flight 93, claims have been raised that the airforce actually shot the plane down, rather than the terrorists bringing down the plane to prevent the passengers from regaining control of the aircraft. When we were discussing the film this week a friend of mine brought to my attention such a contrarian web site, www.flight93crash.com. I have looked at the web site, and remain unconvinced of their contentions. What do you think? Alternatively do you think there is something wrong with people who find or always seek conspiracies in world or political events? I appreciate this is a controversial thread and I don't want to offend anyone. Just thought it was an interesting topic for posted comment. |

Rumsfeld said it was shot down. Slip of the tongue from the Secretary of Defense? And yes, as horrible as that is, they would have to do that.

If you don't believe the U.S. orchestrated the 9/11 attacks, then you are probably one of those dopes who also does not believe that we made the iceberg that sunk the Titanic!!! Letters

Greg, I think you are confusing two different theories. I think the one you are referring to was used as a basis for Orson Well's "The War of the Worlds", which, by the way for those who do not know, really happened but was covered up as to not cause undo panic. There was a depression going on, you know. Letters |

FvF, Don't be a dope. There where no trial lawyers in JFK's car, so therefore Cheney is obviously in the clear. Sheesh... However, it is indisputable that JFK was an Irish Catholic, so how come nobody made the connection between that and the fact that Blackbeard was killed near North Carolina's Outer Banks on that very same date in 1718? Hmmmm??? Talk about obvious!!! Letters

The pentagon was hit by a missile, not a plane...flight 93 was intercepted by the government mid-flight...and I do not believe that Bob Marley died from cancer. |

letters- The only one of you going in the right direct is Greg and his turkish extremist conspiracy theories. Consider, if you will- Bill Clinton (pre-heart condition) loved cheeseburgers. Where is the best place to get cheeseburgers in NJ generally. Diners. Who according to conventional wisdom owns the diners? Greek people. Therefore: The Turkish extremist terrorists were concerned that due to his love of cheeseburgers that Bill Clinton would side with Greek interests. They then decided to create the Whitewater scandal and kill poor Vince Forster. If I was Hillary I would bring Greg on board as my anti-terrorism advisor. He does seem to have the "right stuff" at least in comparison to Golan Cipel. |

Glock17- Now that Maplewood will have video surveillance cameras I expect you will be able to see more dead celebrities moving about town. Do you think it was just a coincidence that property values shot up in M/SO over the past 10 years? Oh, sorry. I have said too much. |

Why isn't anyone talking about the government assasination of Tupac and Biggie? And what about the lunar landing hoax? Why won't Neil Armstrong come forward and admit that he only went to Area 51, not the moon? |

I always thought there was a strong possibility that 93 was shot down. The way I thought about it 1) if they were in a position to shoot it down rather than let it plow into Washington, it's obvious to me that they would have had to shoot it down, 2) if after everything else that went on that morning and given the timing, if they were not in a position to shoot it down, then we are really in trouble. If they didn't shoot it down, it's only because the terrorists crashed it before they had to (also a possibility). If they did shoot it down, I doubt they would ever tell us. The situation would have presented a horrifying dilemma for the decision makers and the flight crew of the F-16s. But, water finds its level and truth finds the light of day. Someday, maybe not in our lifetimes, we'll learn the truth about 93. It could be a deathbed confession of someone involved in the decision (if there was a decision). |

I don't know if it really matters, to be honest. We know that the passengers took their fate into their own hands; THAT is the important thing. That is heroism that should be remembered. I believe that the passenger uprising caused the premature crash. Perhaps I'm wrong, though: maybe the flight was shot down, maybe the Towlie-ban got distracted thinking about all the virgins they were going to be getting soon... who knows? I have a lot of respect for those passengers - I hope that I would be able to respond as bravely. PS - Q: why do Arabs value virginity so highly? A: they fear comparisons

Actually, I thought it was Murder Incorporated. They wanted to send east Coast and West Coast into an allout war, that would cost millions of dllars, and millions of lives. Out of the carnage would emerge a new rap star...Matisyahu. |
