I hate limos. Twice in the space of 15 minutes tonight driving home from the city black Lincoln Town Cars swerved suddenly into my lane. I hate the way they always ride their brakes. I hate the way they take up two lanes at once. I hate the way the move casually without signalling or even looking. I hate the way they'll pull out in front of you and then stop. And a million other things. Their driving habits bring new meaning to the term, "passive aggressive." I'd rather share the road with 10 taxi drivers than one limo. |

Much worse than limo drivers driving badly are limo drivers talking incessantly. Before moving back to Maplewood, I used to travel a lot for work, and had to get a limo to the airport very early in the morning on several occasions. While I would rather doze for the hour it took to get to the airport, the drivers would prattle on about anything from Hillary Clinton to abortion. I felt like a captive, and I am very timid about asking people to stop talking. That combined with bad driving makes what should be a relaxing experience into a major annoyance. |

Limo drivers are able to drive like that because they are not people. They are cyborgs with no sense of reason or souls. |

Actually, some of the drivers are very interesting people. I know the feeling about incessant chatter (in which case I pick up the newspaper or pretend to dial my cell phone). I get into lots of conversations about former professions. Retired cop Retired attorney Retired psychiatrist Young guy driving at night to pay for school Part time accountant The older guys seem to do it to pay for their golf games in their retirement years. I've only ever had one who had driven a car service his whole life. |

Heh, my dad thought about doing that for awhile (to pay for his golf). When I worked in the city I often took cars home because I worked so late. One time, I was still living in SI, my young driver told me how he had gotten X many tickets for reckless driving. I was absolutely terrified. I really thought I'd die on the Verrazzano bridge.

most of Staten Island died not on, but because of the Verrazano Bridge. but car service drivers...the Number 1 vehicles to avoid on the metro area highways (which is saying something when you consider what other drivers/vehicles one ought to avoid). |

I'm in these black town cars a lot . I would say that 97% of the drivers are Pakistani or from somewhere else in the middle east . In a lot of cases this is the 1st car they are driving . My advice is get down low & put the seat belt on. |

greenetree, yes. We had a limo driver give us his card. He is also a public adjuster, and he sells mortgages! As he said, if one job starts paying low, the other one can carry you through.
