Dear Sir, I hope I got your license number correct. I see you almost every day, tending to your job on the streets of South Orange, making sure there are no illegal parkers and that the meters are filled. The main problem with your day to day duties is that you constantly block traffic and cause traffic confusion. Take today for instance. We're on So. Orange Avenue near the Dunkin Donuts. I spotted your navy mini-truck ahead of me and I knew there'd be trouble. You decided to make a full stop in ongoing traffic, without putting on your hazards, and WALK across the street to the Wachovia Bank to give a ticket to someone who was illegally parked there. What nerve! The rain was heavy and there you are, in the middle of the street, blocking traffic on both sides. When you make your way back to your truck, instead of getting in a pulling off, you proceed to stand there, in the pouring rain with your door open, again causing traffic to back up, to make sure that the woman you gave a ticket to actually pulled off from the illegal space! Sir, whether you are giving a ticket, or giving a warning, you are most certainly always BACKING UP TRAFFIC. Your refusal to pull over to the side and not block traffic boderlines on irresponsibilty. We appreciate your dillegance, but please do South Orange a favor and OBEY THE TRAFFIC LAWS YOU ARE ENFORCING!

After all, the whole point of traffic laws is to ensure that vehicles and pedestrians move in a safe and orderly fashion, isn't it?

That is, except when they're for raising revenue.

Don't start that crap, these guys are NOT cops. They are parking authority employees.

File a complaint with the PD, or it never happened.

Here's another story. Scotland Rd in South Orange between the intersection with South Orange Ave and the library, last week, morning rush hour. A public works truck is parked so that it's blocking most of the southbound lane. A car is stopped in the northbound lane so the driver can chat with scabrous public works woman standing outside the truck. Behind the car is a second, then me, then others. As traffic backs up the woman literally dances about, mugging and laughing, actually flashing open her orange vest, clearly flirting with the driver of the car.

I've got to get somewhere, so after 15 or 30 seconds of this routine, I tooted my horn. Not long, just enough to say, "Hey, how about it?" The scabrous woman snaps around and yells at me, "He's a cop! He's a cop!" As if I can read his mind, considering he's in a regular car, obviously acting in no official capacity, and not wearing any uniform I can see; and by the way does that give him the right to block traffic to flirt? No. But unlike her he has a bit of sense and gets moving. He might not have known he was blocking traffic. She knew, though, and she was furious that someone was interrupting her flirting and that someone would have the audacity to ask an authority for a little respect.

She and I had a stare down as I rolled forward and rolled my window down so she could yell again as I pass, "He's a cop!" and I told her, "Who cares? Stop blocking the road." Meanwhile, my daughter in the back seat learned a little civics lesson. Just because someone has authority, doesn't mean they can do whatever the hell they want, although there will always be angry, scabrous people who think they can.

Quote:

2. Difficult to handle; knotty: a scabrous situation.
3. Dealing with scandalous or salacious material: a scabrous novel.

The rest of the definition. I believe Far_cry meant one of these.
