Quote:Symantec said it was investigating the issue but could not immediately corroborate the vulnerability. If confirmed, the threat to computer users would be severe because the security software is so widely used and because no action is required by victims using the latest versions of Symantec Antivirus to suffer a crippling attack over the Internet. Symantec has boasted that its antivirus products are installed on more than 200 million computers. A spokesman, Mike Bradshaw, said the company was examining the reported flaw but described it as "so new that we don't have any details."

Further on in the article it says that individual users with the retail version have no vulnerability, but employees who took home work versions for use on their home pcs, could be at risk. And oh Dave,/....http://www.cnn.com/2006/TECH/04/30/apple.security.ap/ |

Quote:He and at least one other person who clicked on the links were infected by what security experts call the first virus for Mac OS X, the operating system that has shipped with every Mac sold since 2001 and has survived virtually unscathed from the onslaught of malware unleashed on the Internet in recent years.
Two people dumb enough to click a bad link about non-existant software and it's a headline news item? That's the real story. |

Given the long running claim that macs are not susceptible to viruses, yes, I'd say it's front page news. Most people who get viruses on Windows machines do so for doing dumb things as well. posted from a windows/DOS/Linux user that has had anti-virus software on his computer for ~15 years and has never had a virus, except for colds and the flu. |
