The website is obvious satire and does a good job of setting up so called white liberals. I am always surprised at how many people think it is real. |

a couple of black friends and I discussed this site a few years back..they thought it was pretty funny in a "gets it point across" way. I heard an interview once with the creators of the site..basically, it was made not from overtly racist comments that they had directed at them, but comments that people thought were well meaning and complimentary. |

The creator* is the director of development for Eyebeam, a progressive think tank techie organization that supports artists. I think Bobk nailed it.
Quote:* Jonah Peretti is the Director of R&D at Eyebeam and is a pioneer in the field of Contagious Media. He created or co-created the Nike Sweatshop email, the New York City Rejection Line and the BlackPeopleLoveUs.com web site. Each of these projects started small but spread virally to millions of people, illustrating the practical application of concepts like emergence, 6-degrees of separation, and tipping points. Peretti is a graduate of the MIT Media Lab, and has taught at NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications program and Parsons School of Design. He speaks regularly on contagious media, technology, activism, and art, and consults for leading technology and media companies. Peretti's work has been covered by the New York Times, the Washington Post, USA Today, Time, Newsweek, the Economist and other publications. He has been a guest on the Today Show, Good Morning America, CNN, NPR and the BBC.

There seems to be a lot more contempt there than humor. Especially in their forums: "Guidos galore. Oh, I got video of the douchebags playing b-ball at Jones Beach too, too funny."

Sorry, but "Get off" and "Landover" don't really make it as satire because they aren't very subtle. "Black People" is subtle and sort of confirms my feeling that a lot of modern racism (as seen by African Americans) is unintended, much like the "articulate" guy on the website or the high fives. |

I'll tell you what's NOT so funny about that website, the owner used pictures without folks permission next to those quotations! This website been around for some time, and at first I thought it was funny. Never took it seriously, until a young lady that I knew picture popped-up on that sight without her knowledge. She was very upset to see her picture next to one of those quotations. She figured the website owner swipe her picture from a Foti account and placed it on his website. I always wondered how many other pictures did he swipe WITHOUT permission. A lesson learned… always have a password when you want friends to access your private pics. |
