Booker's security gets beefed up
Death threats spur officials to place 24-hour shield around mayor-elect

“Earlier this week, the State Police gang unit heard talk on the street of a threat against Booker and informed Newark police, who went on to investigate the threat, according to police. On Thursday, a confidential informant at the Essex County Jail met with jail investigators to discuss an alleged conspiracy within the Bloods street gang to kill Booker, according to an investigation report obtained by The Star-Ledger.
The informant said the gang had obtained an AR-15 assault rifle equipped with a silencer to carry out the hit. He also told investigators the hit was being discussed by multiple Bloods sets, or factions, according to the investigation report.
Jail Warden Larry Glover confirmed members of the jail's internal affairs and gang intelligence units took the information and relayed it to Newark police. Glover said investigators from the Newark Police Department re-interviewed the informant yesterday afternoon and were looking into the threat.
"Newark has assembled a team to investigate the threat," Glover said. "They will take the information and combine it with information from (confidential informants) on the street to determine the credibility of that information."
According to the jail report, the alleged plot stems from a fear among the Bloods that drug activity in the city will be interrupted when Booker takes office. The report echoes rumors that have swirled throughout the city since Booker's election on May 9.”

This is a SHAME. Hopefully the Feds & State will step up the efforts of BUSTING-up these drug gangs and its activities. I'm surprised Newark does not have its own gang intelligence unit (then again Sharpe James ran Newark). Perhaps this something Booker's new Police Chief will implement. Gang activity is out-of-control in Newark.
