OK Close your eyes... And go back... Before the Internet or the AIM Before semi automatics and weed Before playstation2 or X-bOX Before the 5 hours of homework you put off every night... ..Way back... I'm talkin' bout hide and go seek at dusk. Red light, Green light. Playing kickball & dodgeball until your porch light came on. Mother May I? Red Rover four square Hula Hoops Running through the sprinkler Happy Meals Getting the priviledge to sit in the front seat of the car Wait... Watchin' Saturday Morning cartoons Like Hey Arnold and Doug Or what about legends of the hidden temple, global guts, double dare, and who, ARE YOU AFFRAID OF THE DARK! Who could forget Snick Or the teenage mutant ninja turtles, scooby doo, and Power Rangers, Christmas morning... Your first day of school Bedtime Prayers and Goodnight Kisses Climbing trees Getting an ice cream off the ice cream truck A million mosquito bites and sticky fingers Jumpin' down the steps Jumpin' on the bed Pillow fights Runnin' till you were out of breath Laughing so hard that your stomach hurt and you almost peed your pants Laughing so hard that you did pee your pants Being tired from playin' all day Your first crush... Rainy days at school meant playing "Heads up 7-Up" in the classroom Remember that? I'm not finished yet... Kool-Aid was the drink of the summer Giving your friends a ride on your handlebars or spokes Wearing your new shoes on the first day of school Class Field Trips When nearly everyone's mom was at home when the kids got there. When getting high was swinging on the swing-set When $5 seemed like a million, and another dollar a Miracle. When your parents took you to McDonalds and you were so cool. When Toys r Us overuled the "mall" I want to go back to the time when... Decisions were made by going "eeny-meeny-miney-moe" Mistakes were corrected by simply exclaiming, "do over!" "Race issue" meant arguing about who ran the fastest. Money issues were handled by whoever was the banker in "monopoly" Catching fireflies could happily occupy an entire evening It wasn't odd to have two or three "best" friends. Saying cuss words were referred to the "F, B or S - word" or h-e double hockey sticks. Being old, referred to anyone over 20. The worst thing you could catch from the opposite sex was cooties. The only real heart break you had was when your mom wouldnt buy you that new toy Nobody was prettier than Mom Nobody was cooler than Dad Scrapes and bruises were kissed and made better It was a big deal to finally be tall enough to ride the "big people" rides at the amusement park. Getting an inch of snow was a dream come true. Abilities were discovered because of a "double-dog-dare" Spinning around, getting dizzy and falling down was cause for giggles. If you can remember most or all of these, then you have LIVED!!!

Psychomom - I remember, and my generation might have gotten the tail end of that. My friends and I (all in our mid-twenties to early-thirties) often talk about "kids these days" and discuss how we'll raise ours. I'm convinced that there will be some sort of a backlash on the electronic age. Most of us say that our kids will play outside instead of infront of the computer and that they won't have cellphones, iPod's, and hand held DVD players by the time they're 8. It will be interesting to see if our predictions are correct or if others our age have the same thoughts... and whether or not we follow through on them. |

I remember most of those things... and now I'm re-living them with my children. I am always amazed that my kisses make my little ones' boo-boos feel better. My son ran into the house yesterday calling "Mommy, Mommy," with such urgency, I thought something was wrong. He came in to give me a flower - the dandelion he picked just for me. We let the kids watch TV on Saturday mornings - and when Noggin's song "You belong to a Family" plays, we put down the newspaper and sing along. Childhood is beautiful. I feel blessed to be able to enjoy it all over again from a new perspective. |

My granddaughter asked me what I did when I was a kid. I told her that I played jacks, and roller skated, jumped rope and rode a bike. "They had bikes back then?" she said. She's nine. |

I remember pretty much all of those things (except Power Rangers and Ninja Turtles came on the scene after my childhood and so did "the mall") A few to add to the list (it's fun to think about these things!): - Tang (orange drink they used to claim the astronauts drank in space) - Rocky and Bullwinkle glasses you could collect from the nearby fast food place when you bought a soda. - Bicycles with a "Banana" seat - Getting the privilege of sitting in the "way back" seat of the station wagon -"Thumbs up, No backs" - When we only had to dial 4 digits when calling a local phone number

I can't take credit for the listing, it was sent to me by a friend but I thought it would be fun to share. I just thought of another, relating to phone numbers...when the prefix was in letters like SO2-1234 You'd give your phone number as South Orange 2- 1234. remember when you could burn leaves in the street gutters in the fall? Before we knew about 2nd hand smoke and pollution and stuff like that? |

I must be LiLB's generation. I remember the items on her list, and (just barely) Howdy Doody time, and even when there were no zip codes! Duck and cover, anyone? |

Do you remember those really huge Sugar Daddy Lollipops they used to make? I was pretty little then, so it may have seemed larger than it really was, but they were gigantic caramel pops. They would last forever. |

A friend of mine, who is in her 40s started dating a guy who was barely 30. When he came to her apartment, he said "Cool!" You collect Vinyls?" She had to explain that those were just her records and not a "collection"... |

I started to read the thread, but closed my eyes on the first line and couldn't get through the rest. |
