Maplewood Resident Allan Tumolillo (also Chairman of our Zoning Board of Adjustment and click here for his web site) has a piece in this week's Barron's entitled "Not Your Father's Reirement." It's about how our society is aging in a relative sense and how companies need to change their approach to marketing and product development in order to go with the flow. As Allan says, the aging of the baby boomers and the slowly decreasing influence of the young on spending has been missed by many companies who still seem to think the 15-25 year old demographic is the place to be. As time goes by us geezers will rule the market and companies that ignore us do so at their own peril. Unfortunately the story is not online for free. You need an online subscription or you can buy the print copy. |

What Allan is missing is that the Baby boombers will have less and less as they spend their retirement....the Echo Generations (2nd largest EVER) will only have more and more as they approach earnings years. Companies aren't stupid. I've already witnessed my semi-retired pop change his spending habits. downward. |
