Ok, I am just venting here... In short, sometimes the town picks up my recycled paper and sometimes they dont. When the latter occurs I feel like they are punishing me. Why? I have no clue since I adhere to their recycling rules every two weeks. Because of no pickups Memorial Day weekend and this past weekend I am up to my wazoo with paper. What says you Town of Maplewood?! -SLK |

I suggest that you undertake one of the greatest adventures that a man and his young son can experience here in Maplewood - a visit to the recycling center. They have it all - trucks, backhoes, a big cardboard crusher, huge dumpsters that you can toss bottles and cans into, and another one in which to fling (as far as you can) your wrapped newspapers. Sure, it would be more convenient if the recycling was properly picked up from the front of your house. But, a lot less fun. |

Stupid question, do they take newspapers? When I go there to recycle plastic bottles I see a place for the color sections but not newspapers. Guess I could look harder or ask someone there too. |

Nohero- I go to the center about every 2 weeks to the center with my son to drop off plastics. You are right, it can be fun (especially for him). I just have a small car and too much paper to lug..... Scully-I noticed a newspaper dumpster everytime I go there, usually in the far lefthand corner from where you park.... -SLK |

If you are meeting all of the recycling requirements and they still don't pick up your recycling then you should call DPW that day. We will notify WM and make them pick it up. Eric Burbank |

What do you mean by "big items"? If they are recyclables then the answer is yes. If you mean garbage, then the answer is no. Eric Burbank |

It's not really every two weeks, SLK. In my area, for example, it's the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays. Sometimes that works out to two weeks and sometimes 3 because 28 days is not actually the norm for # of days per month. Do you put anything besides paper out? If you're putting glass and cardboard out you might notice that NONE of them get taken if your timing is off. Some of my neighbors make this mistake a lot and I'm the only one in our household who seems to know which Wednesday is the right one. |

C Bataille- Yes, you are correct in the timing. Ours the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month and I put EVERYTHING out. They take everything except the paper. It is potluck these days... -SLK |

That IS odd. Do you mix newspapers and others? We don't. Scrap paper, magazines, junk mail, cereal boxes, etc goes into a container we think of as "slicks" while newspaper gets put into paper garbage bags and set out separately. Corrugated cardboard is yet another separate thing. I'd also find your situation aggravating, esp if it were drizzled on or got "visited" by a local pooch! |

C. Bataille- You know what is even more odd. Yesterday was garbage day and they picked up the paper too! It makes me wonder, did they trash it? -SLK |

Oy! I've wondered the same thing from time to time but other posters have assured me that, no, it doesn't get trashed, it really gets recycled. I hope so! |

The newspaper must be tied up, not put into brown bags. This could be the cause of the confusion. If you see WM putting any of the recyclables in the garbage please call the DPW immediately. Eric Burbank |

We put out our paper in paper bags from the grocery store and it gets taken every time. (And why shouldn't it? Paper in paper seems the most logical thing to me.) Oh, and we don't sort any of it either. And don't get me started on the "separate glass by color" instructions the town gives us...
