I am thinking about getting one of these small Mexican mammals (thanks tjohn) and I was wondering if they make good pets. I understand that they get extremely hot at times and wonder if there is a specific method used for domesticated jalopenos to cool off? Some have told me that a cold Corona is works ok. |

We have tried raising Jalapenos here in New Jersey. Unfortunately they don't do well in our temperate climate. Very sad. |

Be careful having one as a pet - I hear they can be a bit hot tempered |

Red- the things that happen to them because of irresponsible owners are just heart-wrenching. Many people dice them up to sprinkle on nachos and don't realize that they only needed a little. The rest of the little diced pieces are abandoned, where they tend to shrivel up, dry out or mold and die. Very few of the lucky ones make it into another dish while they are still fresh. I wish people would give careful consideration to the responsibilities and consequences before they use a whole one. |

Check with your local town hall regarding the keeping of a jalapeno. Some people see these cute little jalapenos, not realizing that you may need a permit for your new exotic pet. Also, call local vet to see if they can provide medical care, a jalapeno might require a specialist. If you do decide to get a jalapeno, remember to give them treats to help enrich their lives. Although they don't do this in their natural state, captive jalapenos often love to stuff themselves with cheese. |

Greenetree, I discussed your question regarding which end of the jalapeno to stuff with Mem. She did a quick survey of recipes and found that some call for stuffing them through the front and some through the rear. The better recipes indicating a front and rear stuffing, not unlike a duck or goose. The was the same for jalapenos and jalapenas (the female of the species). |
