Ah yes, happy hour! In my day, happy hours were even happier. We'd often drop over to the local apothecary or if we were lucky a medicine show might be in town. I can tell you, nothing made for a happier happy hour than a tumbler of patent medicine! Either that, or we'd stroll over to the local public house and quaff a few laudanum and absinthe cocktails. My word, those were the days! |

<Monster, You remind me of campus heroes of the sixties who used to encourage people to drop acid, and scared the hell out of me because I wouldn't, yet everyone loved them. I think you have taken over the way people do in small towns when everyone is afraid of them. I don't know you personally, and everyone says you are wonderful, but from what I have seen of you, you really are a mocking, sardonic, cynical strange character. |

Tulip, you antagonize, then wonder why people react. Anyone who does not agree completely with you is somehow against you (see your "argument" with sbenois in another thread). I don't know if you simply don't see how your posts are read by others, or if you are overly sensitive, and assume anything posted in response to your posts is an attack. I am not writing this to attack you. I'm trying to understand why you think everyone is against you. |

If you ask me, Monster has antagonized me with his idiotic Mead stuff, that's supposed to mock Margaret Mead, one of my personal heros. He posts every time I post, and when I have a strong idea or a forceful opinion, (not antagonism, opinion!) he posts "Monster" all over the place. He's a mess, and everyone loves him. You were all so kind when the flood came, then when you found out I had not been harmed, you started turning against me. I haven't antagonized anyone. I have stood up for an end to the Iraq war, I have stood up for my beliefs, I have argued and debated, and made people upset, I guess, but so do many of you. Give it a break. You are all becoming so bland and unopionated. Straw is symbolic of your know-nothingism. Let's get talking. At least some of you are actually having fundraisers and doing important things. But all you really LIKE to do is torment people who aren't in your club. Disgusting. You antagonize me, and I have demonstrated restraint. Now, I don't feel like being restrained. Let me speak, and stop making fun of me. You need a moral compass. I have never participated in mudslinging, especially when it involves one person, alone, with a viewpoint that was not a personal attack. You advocate harassing people for their views. I really have nothing in common with you. It is you who are unamerican for that.

Rastro, Soapbox has become a joke. I miss the important discussions. I guess they are gone. I feel that there has been a total deterioration in this whole message board. You are chatting about getting together, which you could do on e-mail. You are purposefully selecting those in your community and outside your community with whom you wish to speak. Do me a favor, don't ever pretend to care about me, or issue a concern about me, or say you are worried. OK?

You are off your rocker if you think MEAD is about Margaret Mead. Truly and completely off your rocker. Hint - Mead is a DRINK. Look it up. No one has turned against you. I was the one who started the thread asking if you were ok. Club? What club? I don't know anyone on MOL at all in real life. I'm not part of any club. You HAVE antagonized people. Perhaps you don't realize it, but you do. Maybe that's part of the problem. Restraint? You've demonstrated restraint? Why did you feel the need to post ANYTHING in this thread? The discourse that you want to participate in is taking place in the ALL POLITICS threads, not here. So no one is doing anything to prevent you from expressing yourself there. I have a moral compass. In fact, most of the people that you claim are against you have similar beliefs to you about many things. But you take everything to such an extreme that it makes it difficult to take you seriously. I sometimes wonder if you are the GOP Man of the left. Please show me where I have advocated harassing people for their views. I have done nothing of the sort, and you will not find a single instance of that. You have many things in common with me. The difference is, I'm rational. You're as bad as Straw. Worse, because at least Straw doesn't take himself seriously. As for calling me Unamerican, well again, a Straw-type maneuver. Might I suggest going back on your meds? Or possibly taking a breath and READING people's posts before responding? (D&J, If I've got to go, so be it. it's just too much.) |

Well, you have antagonized me. What law says I have to make everyone happy. Drug dealers make everyone happy. I don't deal in bland baby platitudes. Tough. Scroll on by. I just miss serious subjects. Maybe it's just nostalgia. Trivia is a bore. Others have said it. You didn't jump on them. Good night. Sorry you have to pay higher taxes, and that Corzine won. I think that's what's really bothering you.

Se, now that's what I'm talking about. You don't read. If you had, you'd know that I had vote for Corzine, and you'd know that while I'm bothered that I have to pay higher taxes, I understand that it's necessary to balance the budget. But again, this has nothing to do with The Soapbox. It belongs in All Politics. Anyone who is not 100% in agreement with you is the enemy, it appears. It seems like a sad existence. |

No, Rastro, anyone who picks on me for my views is a jerk. You shouldn't pick on people for their views. It's wrong. You can disagree with me, but explain yourself decently, rather than just saying you want to give me seizures. That's babyish and pathetic as a behavior, and deserves criticism. Even if he did it to you, or anyone else. I try to explain and back up my opinions with evidence. Others on this board just want to make a visual splash. OK, that's your thing. But for God's sake, let me do my thing, too. Too bad if it "antagonizes" you. It seems, everyone under forty is afraid of ideas in the US, and afraid of discussing them They put up defenses of personal attack and mockery when they feel threatened, if they don't understand what people are saying. Stretch your mind. Read what I just wrote.

Who has picked on you for your views? As I said several times, many of the people you antagonize HAVE SIMILAR OPINIONS TO YOU. Can I say it any clearer? You say too bad if what you do antagonizes others, but you get upset when you perceive others as antagonizing you. I don't see people afraid of ideas at all. Where do you get that from? This entire forum is about sharing ideas. As for stretching my mind, I think a mind would be stretched to the point of snapping in order to understand what you're saying, and where you see all these attacks coming from You really believed that Monster (and others) posting MEAD was about you, and Margaret Mead? Really? I mean, seriously? Holy crap. |

He, and many others on this board, obviously think alcohol is a fun thing. I absolutely disagree. But this is the first time I've said it. People are, well, sloshed, and unthinking. He has something he hates me for, and you say it's my antagonism. I have hardly posted at all in the last months since today. So, how could I have antagonized anyone when I DIDN"T POST!

BY mentioning him by name, you're saying he is "afraid of debate, disagreement and dissent." That he is "eliminat[ing] the serious role that Soapbox once had." You blame him, he posts a joke about you. Sounds fair. |
