wow I remember when that happened, doesn't seem like 20 years ago. I still never remember the name of that pizzeria. It'll always be Jack's to me. You used to be able to come to the back door and watch the guy make your pizza. I thought that was the coolest especially when he would flip the dough into the air. |

Yeah, I remember the case as well. The guy who was convicted confessed to the NYPD out of the blue several years later when he was picked up on some charge in NYC. Why? Who knows. He recanted the confession, but his teeth matched bite marks in a slice of pizza found at the site of the murder.

A dentist in Westfield was the forensic specialist who matched the teeth marks amd bite pattern in the pizza to the perpetrator. It was cool to read the article about it in his waiting room. Apparently, the guy went in, ordered a slice and ate some while waiting for other customers to leave. Scary. |

The pizzeria was located at the junction of Springfield Avenue and Millburn Avenue right by the Vauxhall border. |

Actually it was Jack's Pizza, at 1553 Springfield Avenue. A few years after the shooting, Jack's wife reopened the place and it was called Mrs. Jacks. Recently it was called Cheesy Pizza, and now it's called King of Pizza, which is no relation to the original King of Pizza which was at Springfield and Millburn. ken |

Pete Palermo of Pizza Primo fame either worked there or owned the place around 1988. I think he went there when he left Roman Gourmet. The King of Pizza story is great also. He went at it for years with Joe's who I believe was a relative of his. Joe's finally drove him out of business, bought the place, and paved over where King of Pizza was. |

It is hard to believe that this happened 20 years ago. We were very shocked. Murder just didn't happen in Maplewood (I think that the previous murder had been about 20 years prior to this one- a girl found strangled in a driveway as I remember the story.)

Jacks was near Springfield and Boyden Avenue it wasn't near Millburn Avenue and Springfield Avenue the two pizzerias at Springfield Avenue and Millburn Avenue we Joes Drive in Pizzeria which is now called Joe's Pizza and the other one was called The Original King of Pizza. The pizza was thing a crispy unlike Joes is burnt and soggy and oily. Yes they were two brothers but both pizzas were different and no one will make a pizza like The Original King of Pizza. Joe's never drove The Original King of Pizza out of business the owner of Kings was a sick man and he had no choice but to close. |

She was found leaning up against a tree between my driveway and my next door neighbor's...That's really all I know. If anyone remembers the story, I'd love to hear it. |

I assume you are talking about the murder on Jefferson Ave??? If so, a young woman was strangled (by boyfriend???) using pantihose. Jefferson Ave. had a bad reputation for a long time after that. Very shocking as something like that was never heard of in Maplewood in my lifetime anyway. |

Maybe there's another one I didn't know about...because I'm about 95% sure that there was one on Jefferson. |
