I called the Salvation Army and asked if I might donate said chairs, and if someone might pick them up from my house. I was told no, they won't come for two chairs. No, I replied, incredulously. What will they come for, I wondered aloud. The man on the other end told me that they will only come for clothing and furniture. Now, unless something changed recently, chairs are considered furniture. I reminded the man of this fact. He stuck to his guns: clothing and furniture only. I asked, then, what if I include clothing with this pick up? It has to be at least five bags, was the reply. Finally, I said, in a more stern tone, that my chairs are, in fact, furniture, and in addition, they are way too large to stick in the back of my car and bring them down. Guess I got through. The Salvation Army will be picking up my chairs in August. Are you sure? The cats aren't allowed on the furnture. Thus, chairs aren't classified as furniture, nor are beds and couches. go figure.   ess Citizen Username: Ess Post Number: 2780 Registered: 11-2001 Posted on Friday, July 21, 2006 - 2:17 pm:        Silly me; I thought chairs have been considered furniture since 1980. The classification was supposed to change when the US adopted the metric system. Next you're probably going to tell me that we don't use the metric system either!
