I moved out of South Orange in 1996 along with a tax bill of $8,000.00
I now reside in Morris county and pay under $6,000.00 for 2,000 sq. ft. home and 1.5 acres. WHat's the going rate in the hood now?

Does anyone actually live in "Commercial Township" (listed in your link, Z)?

Sounds like a very uninviting place to live...

Parsippany. .2 acre, assessed at 335K, $6500/ yr and going up this year, but we get two trash pickups a week and the 2nd pickup is bulk items. Recycle is alternating every week between mixed glass, cans, plastic and newspaper. Every other week they pick up cardboard and magazines. Also once a week is yard waste pickup and they give us 50 paper bags every fall. Whatever they won't pick up you can usually take to the town recycle yard. 1/4 mile to Lake Parsippany where a membership costs $300/yr.

Oh, and did I mention that the mayor's wife stops by once a week and cleans our house?

I'm in Warren County, little over 2 acres, 3300 sq ft. $11,000 WTF!! What ever happened to "go west, it's cheaper"? To top it off, once I have them come back for a final inspection, they're gonna tax me on my finished basement (which will add another 1000 sq ft!!) and for a sprinkler system I put in

k_soze- if they try to tax you for additional living space, fight it. Any certified appraiser (I deal with appraisers- not real estate agents- and house values every day) can tell you that below grade space, even if it is finished, does not count as living area when calculating the value of a house.

Oh yes, I'm geared up for that fight. Just to give me some added ammo, I purposely didn't put in a drop ceiling or sheetrock, instead I painted every little bit up there, floor joists, wires, pipes...everything. (9 gallons of paint) if you look up all you see is a dark brown color. It's kinda cool looking, kinda loungy and it's not even that noticable cause I have 9 ft ceilings down there. Anyway, not doing the ceiling makes the basement technically not finished so they shouldn't even have a leg to stand on....but you know damn well they're gonna try. I tell everyone I know that is planning on finishing their basement this BTW, think of something to do with your ceiling other than putting one up, that way the space really isn't finished Now the irrigation system on the other hand

What would ever cause you to think that? I simply stated my lot size,a brief description of my property, and how much my taxes are.Does it matter that we live in a ranch house on a slab, no basement,no attic, and that 1/3 of the property is wooded?

Stop complaining about your property taxes.

All those $100,000 per year municipal & educational bureaucrats need every penny.
