Will his antisemitic remarks cause people to reevaluate the authenticity of his movie, The Passion of Christ? However, it does seem that most of the world's wars are fought by various religious factions - Protestants and Catholics in Ireland, Sunni and Shiite Muslims, etc. Was his anger at Jews caused by the recent incidents in the Middle East or does it more likely have a longer history than that? How much of a drunk's statements are just true feelings coming out? Lots of questions but not many answers. |

He grew up with the prejudice. His father has written that there was no Holocaust - that Nazi Germany didn't have enough gas to have operated the gas chambers. ABC has cancelled Mel's miniseries on the Holocaust. This has definitely affected his career and his credibility. |

Thanks. I'm trying to keep this third thread on Mel for serious discussion. Mel Gibson is not a Roman Catholic but a member of a traditional Catholic church that questions papal authority. They don't accept any changes in the Church. Yet, when Mel made The Passion of Christ, he included material from visions of an Augustinian nun, Anne Emmerich. She has claimed to have visions of the sufferings of Christ. When he is such a traditional Catholic, I question his motive for using these "visions" in his film. One would think he would rely solely on Biblical references. |

First and foremost, I question his motive for embarking on a bender and then embarking in his vehicle.

Yes, having been sober for over ten years now with no slips it makes me grateful that I have been able to give up alcohol while others haven't been so fortunate. I shudder at his getting behind the wheel and making reckless and ridiculous statements. It makes me more convinced than ever that I never want to go back there again! |

They just announced that the Anti-Defamation League is willing to forgive Gibson and accept his apology. It is ironical that his film, The Passion of Christ, united Evangelical Christians behind Israel and the Jewish people. That is one of the reasons we stand out as a country in our support of Israel. However, ABC better stay strong in not letting him create the Holocaust mini-series. He is definitely NOT the person to handle such a sensitive subject. |

Peter, one issue I disagree with you on is his use of the nun's visions in the movie. He may not be Roman Catholic but he was making a movie to appeal to a large audience. If he produced a movie just for his small religious sect he would not have been financially successful. He made the movie to appeal to Roman Catholics and Protestants alike. The visions were an important part of the movie. I saw it three times. Its popularity attests to his genius at knowing how to appeal to the public. Movie producers have to think beyond themselves and their own beliefs in order to be successful. |

Peter, Perhaps if Mel creates the Holocaust mini-series he will learn something. Apparently the weekly articles in newspapers and magazines remembering and the yearly building of holocaust memorials etc. has not been enough - or maybe to much. |
