Russian gas! (so is Getty). The Exxon-Mobil merger has done away with the Mobil name, and many were taken over by Lukoil. |

But wasn't the station at one of the corners of Vauxhall and Springfield an Amoco? |

Amoco is now BP. I don't think brands matter much, if at all, anymore.

I've found that location and service are bigger pluses in my book than brand.I always used the station at Parker/Valley until it was sold and more times than not, there was only one attendant for all those pumps and half the time he was too busy on his cell to give decent service.I've been using the old Mobil[now Lukoil]on Sprngfld./Vauxhall and find that whenever I go there, they are fully staffed, and want to get you in and out as quick as possible.Face it,the days of "ck. your oil?,wash your windsheild?,are history. Now its fill er up,so I can be on my way. |

From Wikipedia: >In 2000, LUKOIL purchased the remaining assets of Getty Oil, and began opening >Lukoil stations in the US in 2003. Most of the US LUKOILs are converted Gettys, >though some are also converted Mobils bought from ConocoPhillips when that >company left the Northeast. > >In Spring 2004, Lukoil purchased 779 Mobil gas stations throughout New Jersey >and Pennsylvania, and in 2005 began converting them to the Lukoil brand. In the >Spring through Summer of 2006, they did the same, this time acquiring just >about every Exxon station in New Jersey. Egads, it does look like every gas station in Jersey will be LUKoil soon... By the way, Vagit Alekperov, the CEO and President of LUKoil, is worth ~$20 billion, and is arguably the leading Russian oligarch. He learned to play by Putin's rules after the annihilation of Mikhail Khodorkovsky, the CEO and President of Yukos Oil. Prior to becoming the President of Lukoil, Alekperov was the First Deputy Minister of the USSR's Ministry of Oil, where he lobbied hard, in '90-'91 to merge three Soviet oil producers -- Langepasneftegaz, Uraineftegaz, and Kogalymneftegaz -- and created LUKoil. Smart dude :-) Cheers, BlueHeeler |

Lukoil needs a new logo and brand design - their image sucks and since we are going to be looking at it so much in our future, I hope they will hire a design team soon!

I guess soon we will only have the choice of filling up at a LUKoil or a Citgo, supporting one of two dictators: Putin or Chavez...

"Like a bad rash??" My child has a bad rash and I think that's a particularly insensitive simile! I guess YOUR child doesn't have a bad rash so in the future, please think about children other than your own before you act so.... rashly?

Definitely overnight. One day, someone mentioned Lukoil in passing; next day, the Parkway was peppered with Lukoil stations. Day after that, they appear in place of Mobil stations. Soon all three stations at the intersection of Vaux Hall and Springfield will be Lukoil stations. I guess they don't care about their logo/brand image when they will be the only game in town. |
