WHAT THE HECK!??!?! People act like they need to slow down to 2 mph to swerve around raised manholes. THINK. the manholes are a mere few inches high, not a foot. What's worse is that everytime the slow down that much and pulll ALLLLL the way to the right it looks like they're pulling over! G'damn! Just drive over it with the manhole centered under your car...unless you're driving some dubbed out ride that's been dropped a few inches...good lord...ugh |

Glock, that is a very bad idea. A few years back a road in SO was being paved and my brother drove over a raised manhole. He hit a pothole in the road and destroyed the car. The car had not been dropped any inches. It was a minivan. |

The "Car" in question was an SUV. Everytime it is someone doing that...it seems to be an SUV. Odd. |

Dear Mr. Glock 17, If I do what you want, and I damage my car, how fast are YOU going to pay my repair bill? Faster than the speed you retain by speeding over the manholes? Some people are just not sure of the ground clearance of their car and do not think the speed is worth the risk. If that inconveniences you, well.... |

Yeah, this shizazz pisses me off, too. You also don't have to slow to a crawl when turning right, for God's sake! Slow down and be cautious but don't friggin turn the wheel at a turtle's pace; it's so annoying. |

When did I say I do that? I did forget to mention that I was talking about SUVs in the first post. I'm pretty sure a jeep grand cherokee has enough clearance to go over a raised manhole...or am I wrong? |

When I said "you," I meant drivers, not you in particular. I am in agreement with you plus I was making another observation about annoying drivers. |

True story: friend drove minivan onto a manhole cover (NOT raised on the leading side, and van traveling slowly because of road work), van came down so hard on the far side of the cover where the road was pitted, that the airbags deployed, leading to several hundred $ in van repairs + replace glasses + get stitches in face where bag and glasses collided. Definitely not worth the $ and aggravation for the 5 seconds or less difference in time. You'll have to wait if you're behind me. |

I'm not talking 5 seconds. This person was honestly traveling at around 5mph for the entire stretch between Irvington Avenue and Springfield avenue...boyden I think. |

personally even though I drive an SUV and I can drive over raised manhole covers, I still drive slowly since generally where there are raised manholes there is rough pavement. 1) I do not want to shake up my passengers or my cargo 2) I do not want to damage my tires The fact that my vehicle can go over rough terrain does not mean that it has to drive at your pace.

If I go over rough terrain, I yell to the passengers, "Off Road!" and then I gun it. It is so cool, yo. |

BTW - you're not doing either of us a favor by riding on my bumper if I choose to obey traffic laws or proceed with caution. Learn to relax a little while you're driving. Take it easy and you may live a little longer. And, if you're running late, it's not my fault. |

And you never make assumptions in your posts? Anyway, why do people want to drive aggressively around town, riding your and passing on the right while your driving down Prospect? |

BUT...in a way it IS somewhat amusing when you think about the TV ads that show all these "rugged" SUV's driving up and over rocks, up mountains, through rivers, etc.,....and the reality of seeing them C-R-A-W-L-I-N-G, ever so cautiously, over a 2 inch raised manhole !!??? |

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT KIND OF VEHICLE IS DRIVING ON A ROAD THAT IS BEING WORKED ON...SAFETY FOR OTHER DRIVERS, PEDESTRIANS AND THE NEIGHBORHOOD DICTATES DRIVING SLOWLY AND CAUTIOUSLY. GET A LIFE, YOU JERKS. |

Okay, I am driving around town with a scared teen who is learning to drive. Have mercy on us. You really don't want her to go fast, then she makes mistakes! We drive a blue CR-V. I did tell her not to slow TOO much for construction or someone will bump right into her. Geez, I remember learning to drive, in suburban NJ. It was a LOT easier. Cars went slower. Most people really did drive 25. And, of course, there were LESS cars on the road. My daughter finds highway driving easier, and I can see why. Almost every intersection, there's a risk of someone being just a little too agressive, pushing the limits, pulling out in front of us, pulling over unexpectedly, pulling in then making a U-turn. Driving with a learner really opens your eyes to how badly we all drive, and have gotten used to driving. |

I'm not asking people to drive fast. I'm not asking people to speed. But 5mph is a little outrageous. |

How about those idiots that indicate/signal left after the light turns green at an unmarked 2 lane traffic light junction; Do they think we're all mind readers? |
