Today, I went to the Continental.com website & at the top of the page it said "Welcome Ms. Pamela Wang". I clicked on "My Account" and I was able to see the current reservation booked for Ms. Wang. I was also able to pull up the receipt from the trip & see her One Pass number. I was even able to click on "View/Change Seat" and if I wanted to, I COULD have moved her from a bulkhead window seat to a middle seat in the back of the plane! (Although I did NOT change anything). I took some screenshots of it & sent it to Continental as a bug. I wonder what other people are having their information exposed. Scary!

Uggh - they rolled out their new website and it has bugs galore. I use the website all the time to book and manage my business travel and it is all over the place. I sent a letter on Friday to the CEO as the reaction from the staff is along the lines of "we're working out the bugs blah blah blah". Your post makes me nervous - anyone could book a flight online if they had access to my account... I don't know why they don't put the old website up until they work out these issues. |

Pete, For my next fight, I plan to insist that the BOT spend $250,000 of taxpayer money on Oriental Art. Love, Pamela Wang |

Quote:In the 21st century, the term "Oriental" is considered by some people, primarily in the United States, to be derogatory, largely because of its connection to imperial 19th century Europeans and Americans who are thought to have held a patronising attitude towards the region. Many of these people saw the East as backwards, while the West was seen as logical, rational and more modern. Furthermore, it is claimed that some courses in "Oriental studies" were riddled with inaccurate information that was used to justify colonization of these countries. Some Asian Americans see parallels between the word "oriental" and "n*gg*r", though many see it as simply old-fashioned and functionless, as many African Americans see the word "Negro". The main criticism of the term is that it is overly vague, referring to a category of peoples with widely divergent cultural and ethnic backgrounds and no clear division between which groups belong to the term and which do not. In the USA, the location where most of the objections to usage of "oriental" occur when describing people, the term is often replaced with "Asian". In fact, in Washington state it is illegal to use the word in legislation and government documents. Major objections to the use of the word "Oriental" are chiefly limited to certain elements in North America. Its use is much less controversial in Europe and Hawaii, as well as in Asia where, especially in Southeast Asian countries, the word is in comparatively widespread usage. In Europe the term is used to describe such things as the East's cuisine and goods, ancient culture, and religions, at times to denote an exotic quality with upmarket or mildly positive connotations. Some consider the term "oriental" to be an example of Eurocentrism, since they see it is as a term used to describe people and regions that are to the East only in relation to Western Europe. However, traditionally, Western Europe has considered itself to be the West (of the Eurasian landmass), while the areas around Israel, Turkey, Greece and Egypt, have been considered to be near the center, hence the terms "Middle East" and "Mid-East", with the Near East being the Balkans and Aegean. The terms "Middle Eastern" and "Westerner" follow the same pattern as "oriental", yet are subject to less controversy, though "West Asia" is, in some instances, becoming a common term for the Middle East, although including Iran and Afghanistan as well as Mesopotamia and the Levant.

Dave, I used to work with an Asian person who told me that PEOPLE should be referred to as "Asian" and OBJECTS should be referred to as "Oriental". If that is not correct, or I offended anyone, I certainly apologize. |

Did you find the account for Sue Shi, or perhaps Chet Lag, or maybe Seymor Butz? I tried to book a flight a few days ago and the site kept failing. It told me to try again or call 800 number. I called the 800 number and was on hold for 25 minutes and gave up. |

I received the following pretty weak response from Continental today: Please accept our apologies for the delay in our response to you. In the last two weeks, Continental has implemented a major re-launch of our Web site. While some launch glitches were anticipated, we are working quickly to resolve those isolated issues that may have affected some online customers. We do understand the implications of being able to modify the itineraries without authorization, but the situation has been remedied. There were some reports that customers using our Web site were able to see limited reservation information of other customers. Most importantly, at no time were passenger social security or credit card numbers compromised. In fact, the full credit card number is not displayed. Bookings now are normal. Thank you for choosing continental.com. |
