I just saw a TV ad for the "9/11 Commemorative Coin". It has a little 3-D Twin Tower pop-up. Part of the proceeds will go to "official 9/11 charities".

It's one of those fake-mint type places. $29.95 for "your piece of history."

This is profiting from tragedy.

What "patriots". To quote from their website: "We're proud of our association with Barry M. Goldwater, Jr."

Ugh. Spitzer shut this BS down before:

Hopefully he'll find a way to do it again.

I remember those things coming out a few years ago.. maybe on the 1st anniversary. Guess they figured since they movie was out that the public is ripe for sales. Don't plan to buy one.. nor do I plan to see the movie (although I hear it's very well done and really about the human spirit, I just never want to visit that moment in time again.)

But c'mon it's made from gold and silver reclaimed from the actual site. How could you not want one?

Well, the pop-up feature did have me in a quandry. So, you think installing Goldwater as their director is an attempt to show how "legitimate" they are?

Hopefully, Spitzer isn't too busy with his campaign. I'm glad that he had it shut down before, but what is his jurisdiction? The link between the claims that the materials came from NYS (the "Gound 0 silver")?

I don't get it. Spitzer got them to issue over $2 million in refunds, not to mention almost $400K in civil penalties:

http://www.oag.state.ny.us/press/2005/oct/oct19b_05.html

...and yet they go ahead and release a POP-UP version (with more of the "Ground Zero Silver" nonsense)?!?

As for Goldwater, their copy is priceless:

Barry M. Goldwater, Jr. is More Than Just a Patriot, More Than a Compassionate Conservative...He is a Humanitarian!

He should also add "real f*#%ing hero" to the list. Disgusting.

This reminds me of another tasteless thing I saw post 9/11. I was walking with a friend in Lower Manhattan (may have been Church or Barclay Street, don't recall exactly), and there was a banner over a bar which read "Closest Beer to Ground Zero." I was so taken aback I had to ask my friend if she was seeing the same thing.
