Some NJ Transit, Amtrak service suspendedOfficials say it's due to police activity Eyewitness News (New York - WABC, August 15, 2006) - New Jersey Transit tells Eyewitness News that service is suspended between New York's Penn Station and Secaucus while Amtrak Police investigate what they say is a suspicious item on the tracks just east of Secaucus Junction. The police activity has temporarily knocked out service on the Northeast Corridor for both Amtrak and NJ Transit in the area. Transit officials say NJ Transit Midtown Direct trains are being rerouted to Hoboken and are cross honoring all tickets with PATH. Stay tuned to Eyewitness News for the latest on this suspension. I received a page and an email to alert me sometime before 4:30 when I left my office. Normally I get to the horrible mess at Penn Sta before my pager goes off, but this time it worked. Of course, they never sent out another alert indicating that the problem had been resolved, so I'm sure some people were inconvencienced unnecessarily. |
