I was walking my dog through memorial park a few days ago and noticed 3 kids walking around the park picking up trash and putting it in bags to be thrown away. They picked up used napkins, beer cans and even cigarette butts! They didn't look any older than 16 or 17. Cheers to them!!

Just thought i'd share this inspirational story.

Are you sure it isn't gang related?

I was expecting something else from the thread title. Glad to be pleasantly surprised! :-)

Word is they hang out a lot in the park and aren't interested in sitting or stepping on trash after dark -- or getting blamed for what trash is there. Good for them!

This is nice to hear. Now if the town would clean up all that broken glass...

Maybe once a month, on Friday night, the township could stage some sort of teen trash out in the park. Give 'em pizza slice coupons, or discount movie tickets or something for cleaning up while socializing. A nice counterbalance to some of the weekend night behavior on the main drag...or, some kind of rewards card that gets punched for various good behaviors and gets you free icecream, or slices, or similar. It's cool that we're grateful for good behavior, but it would be nice to reward it more concretely.

That's a great idea Cynicalgirl. If we can get the village businesses to comply, this could start immediately. This could also be done on SA.
