combustion/k-soze- Let me point out that you automatically believe Chet's version of events only because you don't agree with what I did, throwing and credibility you have out the window. t -SLK BTW, my wife may be upset about what happened but she is also surprised the cops were called in such a "family/children friendly environment." |

SLK , Chet Ubetcha is from a character from Fairly Oddparents , which is kind of appropriate for this thread. |

I cannot believe this thread is still going! That being said, I'm not exactly sure why I get included in the "smack down" comment from combustion, but I hardly think it's appropriate. SLK and I have merely been arguing our position. Edited: because I confused one person posting under a name beginning with a "c" with another person posting under a name beginning with "c." My apologies. |

Fab: I think it's funny actually. I mean scroll through this entire thread and count how many times SLicK said, I'm outta here. or This thread should die alrady. It's funny and sad all at the same time. I'd say buh-bye to you SLK but I know you'll be back in just a few more moments. I'm actually enjoying it. At the moment this is one of my favorite threads on MOL. I truly have learned alot and it's made me think about my upcoming child and my behavior. I've had genuine and important conversations about childrearing with TS directly from out of this thread. So it's been entertaining AND educational. Thanks SLicK. See you are good for something after all. Actually two things. |

Fab- Two reasons. I thought the culprit has been smoked out (how can you expect me NOT to say something?) and pure bordeom. After thinking it over I am having doubts about Chet being the narc. If he has anything else he wishes to say then he can PL me. I am done now. No really I am. -SLK Alleygater-remind me, what is the other thing? |

I told you what the two things were in my post. Sorry if I wasn't clear. One was the you make me laugh with your "I am done now. No really I am." comments and then come back to continue five minutes later. And Two was that I learned a lot about child rearing directly from out of this thread. Sorry for the confusion. |

chet- your behavior was akin to being a horses . Whadja think? That someone left their kids in the car at Gleason's and then went shopping at Pathmark for a few hours? Obvious that the mom or dad was just inside at Gleasons (and on close inspection you could probably have seen that the doors were locked) and you should have noticed that it was only 60 degrees outside and it was cloudy. How does that add up to call the cops? It doesn't. Save your heroics for the real stuff. Thankey. and The End. |

I vote with crabby. It's easy to watch your kid from Gleason's, and I've done it myself once my kid was older than 6 or 7. I never left him as a younger child, but the fact that it was done is not all that shocking to me. |

This subject really hits a nerve & its not surprising that the debate keeps going. It is neglectful to leave a child alone in a car, we all know it. We've all heard the news reports of children who suffocate or are kidnapped from a car. We all feel pangs of guilt the first time we do something neglectful, but somehow foolishly feel comfortable doing it the second, third....time until it seems perfectly safe and responsible. Just daily routine. The world has become a much more dangerous place than it was when we were kids. I don't want to preach, since I am no angel. And I love Maplewood and think it's a great community. But we often feel a false sense of security when in such a great environment. How far is South Mountain? Chopped up bodies with in walking distance? Not necessarily associated with kidnapping, but.... Let's just not let it happen! It's not paranoia, it's prevention. |

Neglectful? Yes. Let's not let it happen? Yes. Daily routine? Yes. The world a more dangerous place than before? No. Statistics don't bear this out. We are more aware of our dangers. They were always there. This is a double edged sword. The good part is that we know how to prevent things. The bad news is that we are more fearful than we need to be.

Those statistics raise a few questions. 1. What happens if you take away the statistics for the worst areas? In other words, are things more dangerous where we live and work than they were 40 years ago? 2. How much does a difference in reporting crime affect these statistics? There is no answer for this question. Also, the statistics don't show kidnapping or similar crimes against children. They are, therefore, tangential to the topic of this thread.

If I'm not mistaken, Czele, the chopped up bodies are brought here from somewhere else. Hardly see how that translates to a crime wave in our neighborhood. |

It should be totally obvious to everyone by now that the problem has nothing to do with SLK or anyone else leaving their kids alone in cars. The problem is GLEASONS. How dare they have a parking lot where cars can be used to abandon kids. I think a townwide boycott is in order until they do some serious landscaping and get rid of that parking lot. |
